In February the burn posts have burned over $14,000 USD worth of Hive & HBD tokens. Lots of tribe tokens (LEO, STEM, SPORTS, etc) were also burned but I don't keep track of that as there is no eay way to do it.
The exact numbers were 6,449.20 HBD & 20,299.09 Hive.
I get asked all the time what the posts are for, the answer is simple. It provides another option for stake holders to direct inflation on a regular basis.
There are currently four options available to stake holders.
- Curate content
- Vote HBD.Funder posts (distributes to DHF)
- Vote Burn Posts (distributes to
, and removes from circulation)
- Not vote (net zero change, just you have no say in where inflation goes)
You can also choose to do some combination of the above.
I think a lot of people forget if everyone stoped voting, a single account with just 1 HP can direct all of the inflation. These choices above do not change how many rewards are distributed, just directs them to specific accounts.
Any layer 1 tokens (HBD & Hive) directed to gets removed from circulation each block. Hive Engine however does not do this, so
will hold all the Hive Engine tokens sent to
forever. In fact, Hive Engine can even power up tokens to
which I think is kind of odd.
Voting the burn posts will still allow you to earn your normal curation rewards, only the author rewards are burned.
