Just imagine that you are standing on a street corner in the year 1926 and you are having a very good conversation. Though there is no one around but you are asking for direction and checking the weather, trying to dictate a message, maybe even arguing with this kind of voice that is in your head. To other people that are around, I mean the bystanders of that time, this will not read using a phone or talking to an ear, it will read as you are hugging with the ear or someone that is mad.
Even early telephone a century ago were big, furniture like device that stayed in one place and required an operator to operate it and go along with it. The idea that you carry a powerful computer in your pocket is something that no one saw coming and the fact that it has no wire, you can walk and talk to it naturally and it talks back at you. This thing knows everything that you want to do.
Though this might sound a little bit less technological to some people and more like a supernatural claim, there is also this wired layer of weirdness that is wrapped up in one. From 1926, perspective has started changing. You started seeing the possibility of what science and technology can do.
A wireless pocket-sized global communicator, the phone, a disembodied helpful voice, the notion of a non-human voice that understands questions and responds, which is presently used in virtual assistants and call centers now. Then, ignoring your surroundings, walking down a busy street, staring at a glowing slab, half aware of the traffic and the people around, thanks for the mobile phone that we are holding today. In fact, even something milder by our standard, like walking around with headphones, is not something anyone saw coming in years before, let's say hundreds of years ago, but now it has become a reality and even headphones and earpiece are getting smarter and smarter by the day.
Today, we have come to normalize invincible networks, digital intermediaries that connect laptops, gadgets, and systems together, where the issue of using cable has gone to extinction. Most of us agree with radio and TV stations that are black and white, where you have to put a frame in front of it to make it colored, then the internet actually came and decentralized a lot of things, then the smartphone, then voice assistants, each coming with steps to guide you in making a better decision. What would have sounded like I have a tiny spirit in my pocket that can answer any question and send my voice across the tiny ocean instantly.
Now just sound like hey, can you set a reminder for 3 minutes? So most of our artificial intelligence AI are becoming smarter and smarter by the day.
