What's up plebs?
After a quick stamp break I am back with yet another small silver coin from Germany. I think I'll be switching between the two to keep things more interesting!
Anyways, let's see today's treasure
As you can see, it's a 5 mark coin from 1975. Now, before doing any googling and shit I always like to take a guess of what's the coin about.
This one seems to feature buildings or some shit so my guess is that it's maybe some short of architecture commemoration coin?
Well, close enough!
Turns out this coin is a commemorative piece for the European Year for the Protection of Historic Monuments.
This was an initiative first started in 1975 with the goal to promote the cultural heritage of all European countries:
Thanks to the Council of Europe's initiative in declaring 1975 European Architectural Year, considerable efforts were made in every European country to make the public more aware of the irreplaceable cultural, social and economic values represented by historic monuments, groups of old buildings and interesting sites in both town and country
source and more info
Ok, let's see the coin from some more angles:
Despite being almost 50 years old, it looks super shiny as if it just came out of the mint -
Oh, almost forgot. It comes with an engraved edge
It reads EUROPĆISCHES DENKMALSCHUTZJAHR 1975 for European Monument Protection Year. Pretty straight forward so no explanation needed here.
When it comes to silver, the coin weights 11.2 g with a purity of 0.650. That's exactly 7 grams of silver. I believe the rest is copper, at least that's typically the case with those commemorative german pieces from that era.
Generally I prefer coins that look a bit more "epic" but this one falls more a bit more on the artistic side but I happen to like the design of this one š And it has a cool imperial eagle.
All in all, I like it. š„°
