It's been what? Two years now since I started to accumulate silver? And although I have now over 100 oz in coins and bullions, probably closer to 150, I still hadn't bought a Morgan dollar, one of the most popular stacking options 😂
Well, it was about time to add one of the most popular stacking coins in my collection!
Here's what I got in my mail today:
As you can see my Morgan is from 1890 and has certainly seen some better days 😅 In case you wonder, I paid 30 euros for it, with the postal and capsule and everything. Sure, a lot more then I wanted considering its condition, but I opted to order one from a high trust eshop to ensure I wouldn't get a counterfeit. Unfortunately, there are too many fakes out there so better safe then sorry 😅
In case you are not familiar with Morgan dollars, the tldr is that they are a United States dollar coin minted from 1878 to 1904, in 1921, and beginning again in 2021 as a collectible. Wikipedia has a great page about them that covers pretty much everything there is to know!
Silverwise, every Morgan dollar has a weight of 26.73 g, with a purity of 0.900. That amounts to 24 grams of pure silver. With today's spot price at 0.81, that's 20 $ worth of metal! Which is funny considering that you can use one as a regular one dollar coin. Yep, they are technically still in circulation. Imagine getting one in your change 😂
To sum up, they are large, heavy and have plenty of silver!
So, yeah my first and probably the last Morgan. One for the novelty is enough :)
