I found this writing somewhere, and I find it amusing. It was hard at first for some to understand the dynamics of cryptocurrency and it value but the emergence of NFTs is the straw that broke the camel back.
Like how do I explain to people that Jack Dorsey's first tweet which I have screenshoted and saved on my phone was sold for a certain amount. It seems odd right?
Well, read the humorous analogy below;
Imagine If you went up to the monalisa and you were like "I'd like to own this" and someone nearby went "give me 65 million dollars and I'll burn down an unspecified amount of the Amazon rainforest in order to give you this receipt of purchase" so you paid them and they went "here's your receipt, thank you for your purchase" and went to an unmarked supply closet in the back of the museum and posted a handmade label inside it behind the brooms that said "monalisa currently owned by Samuel" so if anyone wants to know who owns it, they'd have to find this specific closet in this specific hallway and look behind the correct brooms. Then you went "can I take the monalisa home now?" and they went "oh God, no. Are you stupid? You only bought the receipt that says you own it, you didn't actually buy the Monalisa itself, you can't take the real Monalisa home. You can take this though" and proceeds to give you the replica print in a cardboard tube that is sold in the gift shop. Also, the person selling you the receipt of purchase has at no point in time ever owned the Monalisa.
One thing that need to be understood is that there are different form of Arts and various kind of Artists. Some make use of pencil to make art, some use paint, and some Create their art digitally.
While other artists can trade their arts physically and are less prone to plagiarism, digital artists trade their art through digital means, and are more subject to plagiarism. It is more easier to plagiarize a digital art as compared to physical arts. NFTs is a means of protecting these digital artists and giving them total control on the value and supply of their arts.
The true value of NFTs lies in their ability to prove who created a piece of digital work, and to track its history of ownership. Content is regularly stolen from talented creators online and reposted by others without credit or compensation (same way I have in the past)
I hope made sense, even if it's a little
