Damus ist ein Nostr-Client für iOS, der es ermöglicht, einzelnen Social-Media-Postings auf Nostr Sats mit Bitcoin-Lightning zu spenden.
Genau an diesem Feature stößt sich Apple, da es eine Policy hat, eine 30% (!) Gebühr für In-App-Käufe zu verrechnen. 30% ist wirklich heftig. Eine ähnliche Fee hat auch der Google Play Store. Viele Entwickler kritisieren die hohen Gebühren schon seit langem als Wegelagerei. Piraterie.
Damus wurde jetzt gezwungen, diese Spenden-Funktion auf Postings zu entfernen, aber man kann weiterhin über das Profil an User Sats überweisen.
Zentralisierte App-Stores sind zwar bequem und versprechen gegen Malware vorzugehen und dadurch die Sicherheit der User zu erhöhen, können aber auch für Zensur missbraucht werden. Die Lösung wäre dezentrale App-Stores oder direkte App-Downloads (Sideloading) von vertrauenswürdigen Websites zuzulassen.
Die EU hat Apple vor Kurzem gezwungen, App-Stores von Drittanbietern in der EU zuzulassen, aber Apple könnte die Funktion stark einschränken, schwer zugänglich machen und trotzdem nur Apps erlauben, die Apple genehmigt.

Damus is a Nostr client for iOS that allows users to donate Sats to individual social media posts on Nostr via Bitcoin Lightning.
It's this feature that Apple takes an issue with, as it has a policy of charging a 30% (!) hefty fee for in-app purchases. The Google Play Store also has a similar fee. Many developers have long criticized the high fees as highway robbery. Piracy.
Damus has now been forced to remove this donation feature on posts, but you can still transfer Sats to users via their profile.
Centralized app stores, while convenient and promising to crack down on malware and thereby increase users' secruity, can also be abused for censorship. The solution would be to allow decentralized app stores or direct app downloads (sideloading) from trusted websites.
The EU recently forced Apple to allow third-party app stores in the EU, but Apple could severely restrict the feature, make it difficult to access, and still only allow apps that Apple approves in the first place.
