War gestern kurz in Sopron, Ungarn. Die Grenzstadt mit circa 60 Tausend Einwohnern ist sehr gut von Wien aus mit der Bahn erreichbar. Fahrzeit circa eineinhalb Stunden.
Ungarn hat immer noch die Landeswährung Forint (HUF) und ist bis jetzt nicht dem Euro beigetreten. 1 Euro ist aktuell circa 380 Forint wert. Am Wechselkurs sieht man, dass man es in Ungarn mit sehr großen Zahlen auf den Geldscheinen zu tun hat. Das fühlt sich schon irgendwie nach Hyperinflation an, aber ist nicht ganz so schlimm und das Problem haben ja eigentlich alle Fiat-Währungen, die lange bestehen.
Ein Mittagsmenü direkt im Stadtzentrum mit Suppe kostet circa 3000 Forint (8 Euro), ein Hauptgericht à la carte 5000 Forint (13 Euro), ein großes Soda Zitron 500 Forint (1.32 Euro), wobei ich mir sicher bin, dass Restaurants außerhalb der Touristenzone noch günstiger sind.

I was yesterday in Sopron, Hungary. The border town with about 60 thousand inhabitants is very easy to reach by train from Vienna. Travel time is about one and a half hours.
Hungary still has the national currency Forint (HUF) and has not joined the Euro yet. 1 Euro is currently worth about 380 Forint. From the exchange rate you can see that in Hungary you have to deal with very large numbers on the banknotes. This feels like hyperinflation, but it's not that bad and all fiat currencies that exist for a long time have this problem.
A lunch menu right in the city center with soup costs about 3000 forints (8 euros), a main course à la carte 5000 forints (13 euros), a large soda lemon 500 forints (1.32 euros), although I'm sure restaurants outside the tourist zone are even cheaper.
