Was meint ihr?

Mike Maloney of Gold/Silver posted a video on the Ukraine war and pointed out the historical background of the recent eastward expansion of NATO.
Russia, however, has increasingly become a dictatorship under Putin.
In a perfect world, neighboring countries should decide for themselves which alliance to join. In practice, however, geopolitical interests prevail.
I think it is a great pity that the EU has not succeeded in recent years in getting Russia more on our side or in taking on the role of a mediator between Russia and NATO (US).
At the beginning of his term of office, Putin would even have briefly considered joining NATO himself.
The EU has no army of its own, is itself divided, and one often gets the impression that the EU has played little role in negotiations with Russia, at least so far, sanctions have been dictated by the U.S., etc.
What do you think? How could the EU solve the Ukraine/Russia crisis?
