Have you put in a lot of time into work, worked zealously with minimal sleep? A hard worker you are though when the it’s time for the roost, you come out short on revenue?
WHY?
I too have been in that rut and the discovery of what I am about to share shocked me and was so plausible. ‘My lack of leveraging’.
Taking maximum advantage of what I have to get what I desire.
The power of leveraging.
Before you choose to do the work, you need to decipher whether or not the job you are getting done will yield the results of the massive profit you desire in the long run.
A NOT-SO-BASIC SCENARIO
A typical example in a tutors life would be
Handling home tutoring at the rate of $40 per hour- attractive right? But in truth what he or she is getting paid for is $40 for 3hours.
Let me explain, the journey down to the home I tutor at was an hour journey, an hour 30 minutes to tutor because I have to get the kids settled down then an hour plus to return back home. If I find it hard to get a cab or stuck in a jam on my way back, I spend even more time not to mention the ‘cab lag’ (the need to regroup and get my bearings when I get home).
It is not enough that you know how to do a thing. The question is... Is it worth your time?
As you progress in life with all the knowledge and skills acquired, there are some jobs that are not worth your time as the yield of profit over the time spent is just so little for your caliber.
Hence, the need for the next level- delegating.
THE ART OF DELEGATING
Leveraging entails the use of the art of delegating. There are a lot of things on your list to get done but not everything on that list needs to be done by you. Those jobs that counts as a whole lot to other individuals -which needs little or no supervision from you. You delegate then focus on the things that need your utmost attention- those that bring in the major bucks.
Individuals that feel no one else can get work done well except themselves are bad bosses/leaders and will definitely not grow as substantially as they ought to with their vast knowledge.
Delegating is the process of distributing work to another person or group of persons, hence, getting the work done with little or no time.
A typical playout of better use of time
You want to get to the top of a drawer to get the bucks that has been kept up there. You could stretch and strain and probably break a spine or you could use a stool which in this case stands as the lever helping you get to the heights you desire.
A solution to the above scenario
A person who handles online tutoring gets better access to a larger crowd and uses his or her time optimally compared to a home tutor who could be paid more for an hour.
A simple comparison through an illustration; where a home tutor receives $40 per hour asides transport fair and an online tutor gets paid $20 per hour. With the analogy so described above of transport time taken and the strain and bustle of a journey of entirely 3hours spent. The online tutor sits at home with no stress making a some of $60 for three hours.
What about a stay at home mum who has to handle the chores and get her work done on the net. If her job suffers due to not having enough time to handle her job to yield the result she desires. She needs to delegate the house chores that can be easily handled to get more work done. This also applies to every other job.
In summary
Hard work and working round the clock is good but not good enough. The need to strategize our work focus to maximize the use of time to our advantage is paramount as we progress in our every line of work
