When it comes to managing your money, there's a basic but important idea that often gets ignored: "Desire", wanting to be financially secure, which is the very first step toward reaching your financial goals. This idea is vividly shown in the first chapter of a classic book called "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Clason. This is the first ever financial book I read, and I realized that, even though the stories in the book are from ancient Babylon, the lessons they teach are just as useful in our world today. In this article, we're going to take a closer look at the important lesson from Chapter One and see how it can help us with our modern-day finances.

Desiring Wealth: The Catalyst for Change
In "The Richest Man in Babylon," the protagonist, Arkad, starts as a simple scribe, not particularly wealthy or successful, but he had a great desire for more from life, in terms of financial freedom, security and success. This desire for wealth propeled him to seek wisdom from Algamish, a rich man in Babylon . This simple desire to improve his financial situation sparked a series of events that eventually lead to his prosperity. I learnt from the book that, desire is the first spark that ignites the fire of financial success, which will then lead to setting clear financial goals and having a vision for where you want to be. Although I am talking about finances, but we must also understand that desire is also the first step to achieving any form of success in this world. Everything starts with a burning desire which will fuel us to pay the price and take the steps necessary for our success.
Taking Action: Putting Desire into Practice
In "The Richest Man in Babylon," Arkad did not only desired wealth but he also took action by seeking the advice of Algamish and other wealthy individuals and implemented their financial wisdom. He applies the "Seven Cures for a Lean Purse," which include saving a portion of his income and making smart investments. I will make another post and talk extensively on that. What I understood from the book and applied to my life is that, desire alone won't make you wealthy; you need a plan of action. Start by creating a budget, saving a portion of your income, and seeking out financial education. To become wealthy, you need to learn how to invest wisely to grow your wealth over time.
