As a Nigerian in Nigeria, it sucks big time. However, I have to admit that my country has a lot of smart ass people roaming the streets home and abroad. I'm one of them, yes.
The level of intelligence in Nigeria was seen during the #endsars protests held last year. Youth clamoured for their rights and got shot down. That's exactly what it's like for the intelligent ones who clamour for a more rewarding society.
The world looks at Nigeria and sees fraudsters, I look within and see people who just want something better for themselves. Besides, fraud takes a lot of intelligence. It takes a lot of knowledge of human psychology to know how they would react.
Due to the brain and financial drain in the country, people have sought skills to cater for their every need. That explains why I get most of my writing tips from a Mechanical Engineer.
Nigerians have strong mental capacity and as an author stated, we have the ability to transform the fintech industry within the country and beyond.
In 2016, Joshua Chibueze and Odunayo Eweniyi came developed the PiggyVest application with the local Ajo style savings in mind.
Ajo may be referred to as Akawo in some other Nigerian languages, but it simply means collective savings.
A lot of Nigerian middle-class homes survive on these savings. They usually take place in the markets among traders or at offices. My family survived off these savings all through my life in the University up until my parents got retired.
PiggyVest helped Nigerians digitize these minor savings and today their company has up to 2 billion nairas ($2,000,000) worth of savings.
The entire world knows Nigeria has a disgusting case of unequal wealth distribution. This system of savings has been put in place to save the asses of many families and individuals.
I currently do not have a PiggyVest wallet because I barely have any need for it right now. However, I have a lot of friends surviving off their savings on the wallet and I support their quest for growth.
The Fintech industry in Nigeria is one with a lot of room for growth. As expected, much tech-savvy youth are harnessing the available room and I know quite a lot of them. Their major limitation is the country's quest to destroy all possibilities of a better future.
That being said, there's more to come out of this part of the world. Keep your eyes out for us.
