This is a very controversial topic. Especially among Nigerians who base a lot of their views of the world on the spiritual and metaphysical. However, it's something a lot of these same people know but refuse to accept in order to to avoid thinking outside their religious dogma.
When I was younger and a semi-active member of my church, I remember questioning a lot of things. I questioned so much that when I asked in public they would shut me up because they had no answers and well, they didn't want to think outside what they've been told. By "they" I mean these Sunday School teachers and pastors.
Every now and then, we would have a topic regarding Christianity and money. I always wondered why they made it seem like you could only gain wealth if you were Christian. Yet the wealthiest man in Africa is a Muslim.
I remember asking that question and rather than this teacher telling me that he worked hard or was born into wealth, I was told his wealth is incomplete and he may never fully enjoy it because he doesn't know Jesus.
Now that is an absurd philosophy to put in the head of a child at such a young age. I grew up and even though I eventually accepted that idea as rubbish, a part of me kind of believed I needed to be connected to a deity in order to be wealthy.
Fast forward to 2 years ago when I was trying to find my way in Network Marketing and the lady in charge of helping me get wealthy tried to make me believe her wealth came from God when she had really just made some wise investments here and there and talked to the right people.
You'd ask her the secret to her wealth and she'll say "it's all God". I never believed that and then I got the real story from her and others who had made a lot of money from the company as well. Their strategy wasn't even morally proper, let alone "from God".
Money isn't a spiritual entity. It's something that finds its way to you when you utilize the right strategy and are properly placed. You can pray about these things but the fact is, you need your head in the process. You'll win some and lose some.
I am a Christian and I believe in the presence of an overall deity. However, I believe I'm a Christian based on what my family would prefer rather than a personal conviction. I think a lot of things about religions are cool but I'm more of a moral person. I believe in right and wrong based on the universal agreement on what right and wrong are.
While it makes sense to pray to be properly placed in order to receive financial rewards, a lot of things behind the scene are based on human activities that were far from being spiritual. They were very much physical based on our impulses, morals and whatnots.
Religion has nothing to do with a lot of things because "you're a sinner in someone else's religion". Can't remember who said that but it made way too much sense.
Did I push this talk beyond your religious boundary or do you understand my standpoint on this? Do you have a similar mindset?
