The Lancia Stratos
Lancia is an Italian car manufacturer that is currently owned by the parent company of Fiat, and is largely dormant.
The brand is best known for it's rally-racing heritage, and it was often said that Lancia "only sold cars to finance their racing."
This could arguably be the reason the company suffered financially, and has ultimately ended up what it is today.
The Lancia Stratos was produced from 1973-1978, and was designed from scratch as a rally car. It's a rear-wheel drive, transversely-mounted, mid-rear engine design. It used the 2.4 liter Ferrari Dino V6, and featured a unique windshield design that allows for high-visibility.
A total of 492 Lancia Stratos were produced because of the rally homoligation requirements. Of the total, only a fraction of these were the "Stradale" or road-car versions. Even the Stradale models were very-much still race-cars. It's a definite dream car, and only a dream because of the insane cost that comes with them.
Lancia Stratos 2018
In 2018 an all new Lancia Stratos was announced. Designed by Pinnafarina, and using a shortened custom Ferrari F430 Scuderia as it's basis.
This one was created for rich sports-car enthusiasts for track and road. It
still maintained it's race/rally pedigree though inside and out.
Only 25 were planned for production in total, and the price was very high.
