Yesterday, I got to spend the day and night in Granada, with some of my friends. We traveled up in the afternoon and after checking into the place that we were staying at, we went out for a walk to take in the sights and the sounds of the city. I am not a big fan of bright lights, so this excursion, especially so close to Christmas, was a little overwhelming at times. But I still had a great time. It really is important to get out of your comfort zone every now and again.
Even so, I did enjoy myself, it is not often I get to go out without my girls, this was certainly an very overdue event. During our time out and about we did find some great places to explore. We spend the afternoon walking along the river,(the older part of the city) which was beautiful and a wonderful introduction to Granada. I have lived here for over 3 years and it has taken me this long, to make the time to explore the closest city to me.
As it got dark, we wondered back down into the center, we could hear music in the distance and decided to go and check it out. I was expecting to see some sort of performance, or people busking. Instead what we saw was a lot of people taking photos of the Christmas light on display. Which you can see above.
So I am pretty opened minded, but when I looked up to see what had drawn all this attention,I was pretty shocked. Because to me, the lights resembled upside down crosses. I looked around to see if anyone else, (besides my friends) noticed this, or indeed were talking about it. But no everyone was just singing along to the cheesy Christmas sings and taking selfies.
I made a joke about how we had just entered the Satanic/Anti Christ Plaza and for a while we were able to laugh about it. But all in all, it made me feel very uneasy.
Symbols are everywhere and some can be quite subtle, but this wasn't so subtle to me. I would like to know what you think? What is the first thing that comes to your mind, when you looked at the photo? Before you got to read my words.
Here are some of my favourite places, that we explored and discovered. I am not used to seeing such clean water running through the city.
I really enjoyed, exploring the old part of the city, with it's cobbled and narrow streets.
I loved this door knocker, I wish I took a picture of the whole door, as that itself was very impressive. But it was the knocker that really caught my eye.
Something else that caught my eye, was this lovely stone building
up above, which I thought was at first a grotto of some sort.
What it turned out to be, was a little wine bar. I went to take a look through the door, but then we decided to go inside.
It really felt like we were in a cave, it was super cosy and we were the only ones in there. My friends had a glass of wine and I enjoyed the view and atmosphere.
This was the highlight of my day, coming across this Maple tree. I had to run across the road, climb the small fence and hug this magnificent tree. I had to bring, one of the large leaves home with me, to show my girls. It was just what I needed calm my over stimulated brain.
