The chestnut-tailed starling or grey-headed myna is a member of the starling family. It is a migratory specie found in woodland habitats in Asia. For a last couple of years chestnut-tailed starling has been visiting Margalla hills. When I first saw the photo of chestnut-tailed starling in Birds of Islamabad page I was stunned to see the beauty of this bird. So I visited the Lakeview park where they were sighted. They live on high trees and the park's area in which they were living was very crowded and they were not bothering of human's presence.
They live in small flocks like around 10 to 12 birds. Male is more beautiful with some crest than female which is also beautiful but tiny in size and without crest. They mostly perch on top branches and always looking for some insect etc.
I am much impressed by the color combination of that starling. They are very photogenic and different shades of copper color compliment them well. Their eye are very beautiful and yellow beak also quite good. Over all seeing this bird in wild is a treat for me. I visited that place for two days and spent some time with them.
They don't stay for a long period in Islamabad and after few days stay they travel for their next journey. This year I am still waiting for their arrival they might visit in May again. Also hope that this time their stay will be longer and I will spend more time with them.
