¿How do you go about finding new friends and creating lasting friendships in the offline world?
Well, I used to think that real friendships were in high school. I had a lot of hope in having someone loyal to me, But the situation is that I wasn't the right one. There were characteristics of being shallow, self-centered and always being the most popular. That's where I felt I didn't fit perfectly.
Then, I saw a sign at the bus stop. An international rock band was going to perform near where I lived. I had never been to one, so when I got to the site. I met people who were complete strangers, they treated me like a brotherhood. I felt like I was welcomed into the rock world. I formed a friendship in the rock community, I lost my shame and shyness. I could be myself and even though I was 15 years old. I was grateful that they treated me as if we were lifelong friends.
¿Why did I get to talk about this topic?
because when I arrived alone at the event where there was a crowd of rockers and beautiful rocker women. I felt that for the first time I can choose the person I want to form a friendship of years. I decided to let them know me as I am and the lifestyle I had. But, there were also friends who were afraid to go alone and I was committed to take her to the event and go home. I formed a bond with the rocker women, who will be safe with me. We look out for each other, if some of them are under the influence of alcohol or want to go out and make up after the event. I avoid this situation to avoid unpleasantness later on. In Venezuela, if you go alone, you will be condemned to verbal and psychological harassment. Only for a short time and then they change their attitude until they accept that it is one girl too many and forget to continue harassing. As a rocker woman, being resistant in ignoring all night is exhausting and boring.
But I will never make a friend put up with this treatment. Let alone force her to have a rocker boyfriend to fit in and cut down on the harassment.(Laughter) none of that I will allow, because we have the same right to those who go to events and drink their own beer 🍻. The friendship strengthened over the years and they do the same with the new girl in the rock community. Now each of them got married, have kids, emigrated and some of us are still around.
Friendship to me is about helping each other, inspiring courage and bravery, telling the truth even if it hurts and you don't want to hear it. But above all, to be loyal even if we are no longer friends. Because secrets, tears, pain, sorrow, sadness will always be in our memories. None of us were superiors and neither am I, we are women who love rock and roll and go to support the national bands. together with my friends or meet all of us at an event. It is the most beautiful temptation I am living. Each and every one of them, I thank you for accepting me as I am and putting up with my scolding in case I didn't like something.
