Hello Weekenders
A few stories of product woe from my life ...
There was this really dark and dingy shop down the road from where I grew up and when I was a child it was dishevelled, disorganised and yet it was a stop on the main road used by many, many people. The chocolate and sweet aisle was always well stocked, almost overflowing and if you rummaged through them you could often find the older stock at the bottom marked somewhat cheaper than the ones on the top. I don't know who taught me to look for that, but I remember doing it all the time.
That chocolate was so tasty to the point of being addictive but was probably carcinogenic or made with parts of crunchy beetles or something, who knows, either way I was really sad when it disappeared. It was so long ago there aren't even pictures of it online to lament over, it was long long before digital cameras and with film being so darn expensive in those days, who would waste a photo on a chocolate bar right? Perhaps if I ever go back in time I'll make a plan to take photos of some of these things who's history has been erased other than in the memories of it's fans.
The second one that I was sad about was a bra that I bought when I was a teenager. It was made by She Bear and was a sort of satin material in deep red with black trim. I still have it and it's still in good condition even the elastic hasn't degraded. It is lovely and feels special that it's lasted so well. There are just some pieces of clothing that make you feel awesome (like a big pair of boots that make you lift your chin just a little bit higher or a pair of jeans that are just the right cut to make your bum look it's best), this was one of those brands, this was my absolute favourite bra. Sensual and sexy.
After that purchase, the brand disappeared for a long long time. I looked it up just now and to my surprise, I actually found it online in my country. Not sure whether the quality would still be the same, but it was nice to see that it's back on the market and it's not hugely expensive either.
Through the years there have been numerous other things (mostly food items) that I've enjoyed that simply vanished without a trace or explanation. I always feel slightly betrayed when it happens because the competing products are never nearly as good. I'll continue to shake my fist at the sky when it happens. Perhaps there's a community in the making from this topic. "Products of Olde" - what do you think?
As for my bedside table, well that's a whole other story for another time!
