I had an amazing weekend. I rarely go out, and when I do, a couple hours in and I’m already over it. Reason is because my social battery is very weak, I’d be out and next thing I want to do is go home to my pillow. My mood changes and if I can’t leave immediately, I’ll just find me a bottle of wine or whatever, wear my ear pods and turn on Netflix app on my phone; I can’t shout.
Last week I got an invite to go on a beach. I’ve never been before, I’ve had about a couple opportunities to go on a beach but I always turn them down; reason is I don’t like the feeling of beach sand on my legs, the feeling of sand or anything dirt related makes my mind go bananas. So, I’ve carefully avoided going to the beach. I just like the idea of wearing bikinis and floral kimonos to the sunny beach, laying bare-chested, tanning and all that. Just the idea of it. I mostly just like seeing it in the movies cause I don’t even like being out in the sun.
One time I got really close to going to a beach, I had finally accepted to go and see if it kills me, made plans- I actually didn’t have to make any plans, all I had to do was show up. Then something happened. It was a book that happened. That week I started reading a book from one of my favorite authors Nnedi Okorafor. She’s so brilliant with a too tier imaginative mind who prides herself as an Africanfuturistic writer. She’s written so many books and my all time favorite is WHO FEARS DEATH.
Anyways, this time I was reading LAGOON. It’s a sci-fi fantasy fiction written in 2014 and set in Lagos Nigeria. Not to spoil the book for anyone who might be interested in reading it, but it’s about aliens landing in a certain ocean - lagoon in Lagos. A wave shows up and frisks a select individuals into the bottom of the ocean to meet the aliens. Lmao. I was reading this book and thought: no way I’m going near a waterbody by weekend.
Last weekend I went to the beach, my friends and I got there at night because trust us to be fashionably late. It was colorful and loud, I’m not a fan of loud spaces but I found myself settling into the buzz. Soon we were drinking and all things caution flew to the winds. I danced, but mostly seated. You know how everyone is a great dancer while they’re seated? Yeah that’s me. Oh, there was this girl in our midst that was raining fire with her body, she knew all the cool Afro music dance steps, it was really nice to watch.
Then came the food, we had lots of chicken wings, I devoured my portion because I was famished; I hadn’t eaten all day because I needed my tummy to stay flat in my bikini. But I didn’t care at that point, I just ate, ate and drank. I even took a couple puffs of some spliff because why not. It was a fun night.
I didn’t get to see the beach in the day time to have a better look and take better pictures, but the lighting and ambience of the entire place was giving. The neon lights was a vibe, loved it.
We left Truth and arrived my friend’s Airbnb apartment at around 2am. I took off my makeup, took a hot shower, did a little bit of Netflix and drifted into a long sleep. I want to talk about my friend’s Airbnb apartment but I’ll save that for my next post.
Thank you for reading my post. I took a bunch of beautiful pictures; I hope you like them.
