Our culture is our pride and that is why Nigeria is known as one of the best countries with a reputable culture . Nigeria is a country blessed with different tribes and cultural diversity. One of the things that made Nigeria an interesting country to live in is her festivals, all the tribes in Nigeria has their special ways of celebrating their feativals and this has attracted many visitors to Nigeria.
When it comes to showcasing cultural heritage, yoruba tribe has it all, i'm glad i belong to this wonderful tribe rhat cherishes their culture and impact the knowledge into their offsprings. One of the events that made yoruba tribe spectacular is their traditional wedding ceremony. Yoruba tribe is popularly known for (owambe) meaning party and it comes up on friday and saturday when everyone will be available to have fun.
Weekends for yoruba tribe is for parties and everyone do awaits this day in order to have the experience of what our owambe parties are like. Traditional wedding happens between the families of both the groom and the bride, this is the coming together of both families to mark the holy matrimony of their children. In yoruba tribe, the man is the head of the family therefore the man has to come to the bride's family to ask for their daughter's hand in marriage and while coming after the formal introduction has been concluded with the bride's immediate family, the groom families will come with some items this depends on the request of the families.
The items to bring depends on what had been laid down in the foundation of the bride's family, all these items must be provided and presented at the chosen date by both families. Yoruba wedding is interesting and fun with all the vibes from both groom and bride's family and friends.
After the presentation of these gifts which includes some cash present for some members of the family, and after all agreement is settled and fully obeyed the traditional wedding is completed.
One other thing that makes yoruba traditional wedding interesting is the dressing of both the bride and the groom. For yoruba traditional wedding, an indigenous attire popularly known as "aso oke". For any wedding, the bride and the groom gets to choose the colour they want for their traditional wedding attire and this makes the party even more colourful and this what makes our owambe different and special. This is why i cherish my culture and it's my pride, we go again this weekend for another owambe( wedding party) as usual.
