I'm no stranger to outdoor weekends. However, I hardly have them nowadays. Going on these adventures to places like other people do, tends to require lots of planning and knowing the places. We aren't exactly on the best terms regarding security to be doing that kind of traveling around the country. But I'd love to get back to those days when we would pack our clothes and go in a tour through the country to some place new.
Outdoors are great to feel reconnected to something different in your brain. I guess it is the calling to the primal nature of humans. Something that goes beyond are sometimes pesky thought process.
When I think about outdoors, an idea of being far away from civilization comes to my mind. It isn't like going to the nearby beach or river. It requires some distance from other things. It includes the possibility of being stranded in that place and needing to start over. Maybe that just the overthinker in me traying to make some sense out of this idea.
My choices for these times are always indoor weekends. It could be something about creating content or working on some instrument. Sometimes, I get something new to do. I would go to a concert, or read poetry, play some music myself, attend an activity organized by some friends. And it will all be indoors somewhere else.
This preference on indoors activities is rooted in a lack of money. Being you own boss usually means you owe yourself some money. And the worst part is that you can't quit or you'll certainly never get your investment back. So, weekends tend to be my busiest days. But I guess I can't even talk about weekends since that's a concept created for labor. It is a vexing idea. Time is so weird in that sense. We all agree our time is worth a certain amount of money and people go about it with that notion and do what they think. I can't include myself there since I removed myself from the working force 3 years ago.
Anyhow, my indoors weekends include the tiny steps towards creating a business out of craft. That is something that doesn't happen quick. Since this is related to art, the road gets harder. So, these days work as the foundation of projects and how to deal with them.
They are also the time of introspection and having these long conversations with my inner monologue to get a grip of what I'm building without feeling I'm losing myself in the process. I think you can have some of that outdoors, but you'd miss the point of going out in the first place. If you're not going to stand in awe by the presence of nature, then, you're going out for the wrong reasons.
But don't let this workaholic tell you how and what you should do your things in the beach, river, mountain and else. Your money and time are yours to spend as you see fit.
Meanwhile, I'm preparing myself to face a challenge of painting a big instrument with the tools I have. It's not looking good, but I'll see it through and come around it with some lessons learned. That's also something best done indoors. Outdoors are full of dust and other things. I don't it and neither bugs getting on my coats of paint!
Although I prefer my weekends indoors to get some work done, it doesn't mean I wouldn't go outdoors the rest of the week. It would be even better as most things wouldn't be crowded by people who work their 9 - 5, Mondays to Fridays.
And on that note, I gotta get back to some cutting, chiseling and sanding.
Have a great weekend!
