I had been thinking for a while what kind of animal I'd like to keep home. Taking the consideration that I had a house for myself. There were the usual things: a tiger, a wolf, dogs, cats. Then, exotic animals like hedgehogs, sun conures, horny toads, a peacock.
All of that sounds fun, but also a hassle. And as a person who recently turned 30, I wish my life to have as little chores as possible. Not out of laziness, but I need less housework and more money work.
So I went about with an animal that's not usually a pet, capybaras. They live in couples and are monogamous until they die. Actually, if one of them dies, you will listen to the remaining one cry for quite a long time.
Capybaras are semiaquatic animals and herbivores. They are the kind of animal that makes friends with every other species in their environment.
In Venezuela, they have been used as iconography for some interesting things. One of our exchange houses for cryptos is called Capybara. Also, we have the figure of the Bipolar Capybara, which is a medium of comedy and satire of the Venezuelan society. Some comedians made their first steps there and they creates this series called "Isla Presidencial" (President Island). A parody of Lost but with Latin American Presidents as the cast. It was awesome!
I haven't seen capybaras many times in my life. I ate some once. It tastes like fish. But I wouldn't have them for consumption. I don't even like how Peruvians eat Guinea Pigs.
Once, reading about these animals, I learnt they are form strong bonds with their owners. However, they are not common pets. All the more reason to have some of them. I could make a habitat so they can swim and grow and have a nice life and bring happiness to mine.
Who knows? Maybe I just need some capybaras in my life.
Aren't they lovely?
