Option two: Acquired habit
Assume you could acquire a single habit overnight, what would it be and why would you like to have it. How would it impact your life, be of benefit or add value and is there a reason you want that particular habit but don't yet have it?
This weekend topic is actually very interesting and it will make alot of us question our behavior/ character, habit etc.
Over the years I think I have cultivated alot of bad habits,I actually know they are bad but most times I just ignore or maybe promise my self that I would stop it,but yet I won't.
Examples are
Always skipping breakfast
Sometimes pick my face
Unintentionally bite my nails
Sleep late
Not reading books
Avoiding eye contact.
The habit I would love to acquire
One of the habit I would love to acquire is to always make eye contact. I find it very difficult to make eye contact why speaking to anyone at all.
At one point or the other I believe most of us have been guilty of that shying away from making eye contact while having a conversation. For me it has become a terrible habits.
I talk to people without even looking at their face, I have tried so hard to stop it but it wouldn't go away.
This started in school when I was in junior high school, I was ask to give a presentation which I had studied very well. On the D-Day I was in the middle of the presentation when I made an eye contact with someone that was laughing at me.
All of a sudden I started crying, I lost every confident in me that day, I couldnt go further I had stopped and ran off the stage.
Everyone was basically asking me what's wrong but I couldn't say a word and the event affected me I guess in a bad way. That was the day I remembered I stopped making eye contact and beside I use to be very shy while I was growing up.
I have dealt with me shyness a little bit but I still couldn't stop what comes with it.
I remember a time back home, something went missing in the house, my parents were asking if we took it, I bluntly say that I didn't but they couldn't believe me because I couldn't bear to make eye contact with them, my mom said if I wasn't lying I should look her in the eye, I did a little bit but then I looked away again.
They almost accused me of been in processions of what we were looking for until I started crying and she believed it wasn't me.
How would it impact my life if acquired
I think it will help me to build my confidence and for me to be able to speak up. To also look people directly without even be scared of anything.
I also think it will make the other person focus on the conversation we are having.
It would also help me to deepens bonds with certain people and it can also increase intimacy.
Another Habit I would love to acquire
I would love to be able to read books, when I say books I mean the hard copy types. The online books are okay but with messages and notifications it very hard for one to focus.
I stopped reading books when I graduated from school, nowadays when I open the books and immediately I am already dozing off.
I want the habit of reading and also meditating it with an open mind and eyes.
What is the value
It would improve my focus
It will give me alot of understanding
It will help me to learn alot and also to succeed in work and relationships
It will also widing my mind to alot of things
It will help me to improve my communication skills
It can also help to reduce stress and also improve mental health.
I would work on all my bad habits and turn them into good ones even if it hard or it takes alot of time.
