Sunday March 14th 2020 I started my weekend.
A week later Germany went into its first lockdown.
Since then weekend hours are from Monday - Sunday.
And the ugly truth about my weekends is, that I never really had any by definition.
Before Corona I worked in businesses where the weekends were our workdays.
Mostly as a bartender, so it is obvious that with this job comes working every weekend.
You are there for others, providing them with the service they need to have a relaxed, fun weekend, enjoying the company of friends and family and their favorite bartenders.
One day I will write about what it means, being a bartender.
So back to the weekends...where were I? Ahh right...Corona.
So this Sunday, March 14th 2021, marked exactly one year of being in a weekend.
Ever since nothing has changed besides my savings being gone and me ending up with a ton of free time I cannot use in the way I would have wanted to.
Isn't it strange?
You always dream about having free time, being able to do what you want, not worrying about going to a job you might dislike.
Now I have it and I can't use it in a productive way...I have time but not the resources anymore...gotta laugh and cry 😄ðŸ˜.
So the word WEEKEND is rather a loose bunch of letters, a word whose meaning is relative.
Just as time, regarding to Albert Einstein
By definition a week starts Monday and ends Friday and then the weekend starts. Weekend is for workers, people that have a job where they anticipate the days off. Usually Friday - Sunday.
My weekend starts Monday and ends Sunday lately so I consider myself eligible to post here today.😇
So what looked my weekend since Sunday like?
Weekend Monday:
What started out Thursdays changed to Mondays.
Every week I am going over to my neighbours. They are elderly and the man got sick last year. His wife isn't able to take care of the housework, and they own a 3 story house.
So I clean their house every week, I have time and can support them on this.
Later that day I was trying to fix my satellite dish which got injured during the stormy days we had from Thursday to Sunday.
With a plastic stick that I found in the basement I tried to nudge the dish so I could get the angle back to a place where I can receive a picture. Also I tried to put the cable back in position.
As you can see on the pics the satellite dish is in the perfect spot 😂.
In the middle between the windows with no chance to reach it besides getting on the roof. Which after a rain is not a good idea. Too steep and slippery. Safety first you know 😉.
So you have to be creative in your attempt to fix stuff. Being from East Germany we kinda have that in our DNA lol.
I have recreated the setup for you, as you can see below.
Being rather furious when I tried to do it at night I injured myself badly...please feel pity and regret for me now.
Weekend Tuesday:
Got a call in the morning from my neighbours.
I was told that the condition of the husband changed over night and that they needed me to pick up something from the bakery because they are waiting for the doctor at home.
No problem, hopped in the car and drove to the bakery to get their bread, croissants and the newspaper.
Even with my half broken rear break lights I made it back and forth safely 😉. The one in the middle works.
Can you see how clean my backseats are? For those who follow my stories, they know why I am emphasizing this lol.
So my neighbors got their stuff and later that day I went on some shadow hunting...or rather not, shared that story in the Shadow Hunter Community.
Coming back luck was on my side again.
Joy always gets a topping on his food, a little goodie for better taste. Some love I am showing my spoiled brat. This time it was some yummy can food. Easy to open these days. I mentioned the luck didn't I?
Guess what's wrong in this picture?
After Joy had dinner I took a quick look in my fridge. Literally a quick look as you can see. It was noodles and ketchup for dinner 😅.
Weekend Wednesday:
The highlight of my weekend came today.
Hold on tight! I drove into town today! I visited a hospital!
Ok, one of my friends needed help. He suffered an Inguinal hernia and a surgery was scheduled for today.
Of course I drove him to the hospital and back home after surgery. That's what friends are for, even during Corona times.
On the way we talked how many businesses went down already. The famous Hotel Ritter in Heidelberg closed for good. It was built in 1592. With them many others will follow, we are still in a lockdown situation, since November 2020 the second lockdown is in force.
Just 2 weeks ago the barber shops were allowed to open back up, so were the hardware stores but there is talks already to go back to a full lockdown again.
With the stop of the Astrazeneca vaccine things are not looking to change in Germany anytime soon.
After dropping him off I drove home to pick up Joy and run some errands.
I had to get gas...and started crying when arriving at the gas station. Here is why. Ok first a cute picture of Joy sitting in the car, but after that comes the cry reason.
Sigh, prices went up lately...for food and gas.
And on this I got lucky because an hour earlier it was 1.59 for the liter. 1.56€ the liter equals 7,02$ a gallon. Happy faces here in Germany.
So I made it back to the hospital to pick my friend Scholli up after his surgery. There is no staying over night, you get surgery and are released 2 hours later.
The magic door opened and an empty hospital with lots of signs, warnings and hints regarding Corona awaited me. There is no visitors allowed anymore, just drop offs and pick ups.
I got bored while waiting so I started taking pictures of things.
Like this door I was sitting next too. Turned out it was the entrance to the hospital chapel. Cough cough no offense.
Tik tak tik tak...
I walked around.
The little outdoor area was nice, but closed. It got cold here today, that's why.
I sat down again.
Tik tak tik tak...
Nice Ficus, looks like mine at home.
Tik tak tik tak...
Took a selfie.
Tik tak tik tak...
What do you think about my shoes?
Love Doc Martens, I'm a Doc Martens horder lol.
Tik tak tik tak ...
Took another selfie with this AR stuff.
Wearing a mask it looks rather grumpy 😂.
Tik tak tik tak...
5 minutes later he came out and I dropped Scholli off at home.
What I am going to do this weekend by definition?
I will visit a Roman sight nearby taking Joy for a walk and I will write about it in the Haveyoubeenhere Community.
Isn't that exciting?
History to crawl around in and probably empty because of the weather and the lurking full lockdown, remember, it got lifted two weeks ago and first time since November.
Maybe I will make it to the city to check what has changed, but with the gas prices being up and having a car that is hungry I might wait to spend that money on just driving around.
It is something I might do next week or the week after ...remember, every day is a weekend for me 😉.
Do you have a weekend by definition or a Corona weekend like me? Let me know if you like. :)
