You know how some people say they like cooking, and even cleaning the house? Well, I've always been a slob at that. Picking up after myself has always been a bit of a challenge. I could finish eating, and forget to pack the plates. I don't wash my clothes cause I have someone that does my laundry. It was like that throughout my university days.
Then, I settled down and started having kids, I tried to keep up the lifestyle but it just didn't work out with two kids whose personal demands cannot be taken care of by a maid. It was something I had to do myself.
I always look forward to weekends and it's not like I have fun things to do. I'm usually busy Mondays to Fridays. I drop my older son at school by 7:30 a.m. I head to the shop after, and we get back home by 9 pm. Weekends are the times when I can attend to all the chores I couldn't do during the week. So, last weekend, I got down to my routine again.
I did the week's laundry, and folded the previous week's laundry. Previous week you said? Yeah, it's true. You see, I can't fold the laundry the same day I wash because by the time I'm done, with cooking, cleaning, putting the house in other and everything, I'm usually too tired to fold the laundry. Considering that Monday is never far off, I try to cover up on lots of chores.
The routine of rushing out every day resumes again on Monday. While other normal people spend their weekends to relax, mine is to clean up the house and attend to chores.
I got started on the clothes first since the electricity was on. I loaded it onto the washing machine and got busy with other chores, swept and mopped the floors, disinfected and washed the toilets and bathroom, helped my son with his assignments, and looked through his work, prepared the things he needed for school on Monday, and professionally ironed his uniform...Oh! Right, sorry, what professional? I'm the professional, I'm that good.
There are re only 24 hours in each day, and the weekend wasn't nearly enough to catch up on the things I needed to do.
So, while everyone is talking about the fun things they did on the weekend, will I just watch them in admiration, I didn't have that luxury.
You know what's funny though? The only fulfillment I can get from any weekend is to do my routine chores else, I won't feel satisfied. I wouldn't trade this weekend indoors for an outdoor activity or anything else. I would rather stay in and do what I have to. There's dignity in labor or what's that thing they say again? Do you understand my last sentence? I just felt like throwing in a smart line. Pretend you like it, lol...
In a nutshell, I spent my weekend catching up on household chores and feeling fulfilled.
