Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to celebrate the first actual snow accumulation we've had for the end of the 2022 year!
First Snow 2022/23
We've had some strange weather of late, where we were getting some really beautiful and warm weather late into the year. We had one day that it reached almost 80 degrees! It was wild! Beautiful to go out for a nice walk in the mid to late autumn for sure but it was not really something I wanted to experience because I knew that it wasn't going to last lol.
Well we started to go back towards normal late autumn early winter weather here in New England! We got our first snowfall the other day and it was a little bit overdue I think but we enjoyed it nonetheless!
The little man and I were out doing some things when I saw one of the road signs that happened to say winter weather was coming. I thought that was strange because I looked at the weather for the area just a day or two before and I didn't see any snow on the forecast lol but that's the thing about weather here in New England, it's unpredictable at best! When we were getting home for the night, it really started to come down and it was the perfect, fluffy snow all over the ground and really made it a nice evening to look outside!
The next morning is when the fun was going on because it was cold so nothing melted and there weren't really any people or dogs out to ruin the snow. This is where you can see the whole area come to life! We know we have rabbits in our area but we don't see them too often, particularly in the winter months. We saw thousands of rabbit tracks all over the area! It was great, the little man was hopping around like a bunny and trying to see if he could follow their trail to figure out where they were going so he could find one.
We didn't end up finding one since they were hiding and likely trying to just stay warm in the cold here but we did see quite a few tracks! I don't know if some of the tracks are another animal chasing them and trying to catch them or what. I didn't see any blood so it's hard to say whether or not this one got snatched up lol but there were a lot of tracks!
It was really nice to get a good look outside though. There is something beautiful and special about a nice crisp winter morning after a new fallen snow! The air is so calm and clear. It feels cleaner. Difficult to understand if you're not familiar with living in the areas that get snow routinely lol
I was talking to someone recently too and she said her husband said that it smelled like it was going to snow. It's interesting because it's not something you think much about when you live here but one of the people who doesn't get snow (this was a conversation had on a work meeting) had mentioned that they didn't know that there was a particular smell in the air when snow was coming. It's very difficult to explain! But people who live in an area that gets snow and are a little observant of these types of things know what I'm talking about here! It's almost like the smell after a quick rain storm that passes, you get the strong ozone smell in the area. For snow, it's similar but it happens before the snow even falls. The air gets this very unique quality to it and it's great!
I know people like macchiata were interested in the snowfalls around here! Hopefully she stumbles on the post without me having to tag her :D if not I'll poke her after payout so she doesn't assume I'm after some rewards!
