When I think of the earliest memory I have I undoubtedly recall an event that occurred in kindergarten, so let's say between the ages of 3 and 5. I remember that we were outside in the yard since rightly at that age if it's nice weather the teachers let the children out to graze and play around; I don't know if there was simply less control at that time than now or if it was those teachers who were menefrecient, the fact is that something rather disgusting happened.
I mean we are a small group of children outside playing with the earth -- and the earth being brown in color, what does it look like? No not poop, but chocolate! And so since it is the age of full symbolic play what do you do with something that looks like chocolate? You bake a cake. We gather this earth, start pressing it and rolling it out like a pizza, eventually it comes out as a kind of round base of light brown color, but do we want to miss the dark chocolate too? Of course not, so we take even darker earth and put it on top of it, also pressed, so it comes out a two-layer earth “cake.”
Fantastic looking, inviting at that point you take and cut slices of cake; after that everyone caught up in the game and the exhilaration of having made a cake, everyone takes a slice and eats it.... The most unclean and disgusting thing I have ever eaten in my life, crazy disgusting, if I think about it to this day I can still taste that horrible taste from the ground in my mouth! There at that point I remember spitting it all out right away, then I have no recollection of what happened to the others or how it went on, I just remember telling my parents about it later. Fortunately, I ended up not getting either tapeworms or any other parasites or various gunk.
