This weekend, my sister took me out for a long overdue time out. She wanted us to go out on my birthday but since I was in school at the time, we scheduled it for when I was done with school and came home.
We planned to go The Magnolia but we haven’t been able to go for the two months I’ve been home because we both have been busy. We finally decided to do it yesterday when we were both available and had free time.
If you’ve been reading my blogs recently, you know I’m staying at UDS Tamale Campus in an area called Dungu where I do my national service. It’s an area on the outskirts of Tamale. My sister stays inside Tamale though at Gurugu, so I had to meet her there so we go. I headed out around 9am to catch a tricycle there.
I took the first tricycle into Tamale, walked through the market, and picked a second one to my sister’s area. The ride from Dungu inside Tamale was like a 10 minute ride. And that from inside Tamale to Gurugu (my sister’s area) was like a 15 minute ride.
The thought of having to alight at the junction to her house and walking a distance on the dusty road to get there bothered me a lot. I considered two options:
a) calling her to come pick me up when I got there but I changed my mind again because I didn’t want to bother her over a small distance’s walk.
b) try to get the tricycle driver to take me there directly. I tried this option but he got some passengers immediately I got off and refused to take me in.
Walking it is
Why I was bothered about the walk in particular was because the road was dusty and as usual, I was dressed in a white top and sneaker.
I walked for like 5 minutes and was at my sister’s place in no time. I had breakfast there as I waited for her to get ready for us to leave. She had to bath my nephew and get ready herself.
We left like an hour later but before we did, my sister started her picture taking lol. I took her a couple shots standing next to our ride(hers). Then we headed out and arrived at The Magnolia like a 20 minute ride. I was riding so I didn’t get a chance to get some shots of us en route.
When we got there, there was a parking lot outside for cars, and another onside for motorbikes where I parked.
Then we made our way into the fancy section lol. I took this first picture as we approached the second entrance into the playground. The blocky type floor here and the environment reminded me of Minetest’s environment. It was beautiful!
We passed the kid’s playground to get ourselves seated next to the pool before we order. I personally wanted to take a dip in the pool but because I didn’t plan on it earlier, I didn’t bring a swim suit or something like that. I saw many people here from Savelugu in the pool but barely spoke to them because I didn’t know them on a personal level. These two guys were doing some very interesting swim styles I didn’t know and it just made me want to jump into the pool even more. One of them has his iPhone something pro max in his hand and they were taking turns using it to go under under the water. Can never be me!😂 I remember how the last time I was at the pool with , some guy went under with what seemed to be an iPhone 13 and it ended it tears. The desperation and regret in his eyes was saddening.
We sat there for a while and my sister had a near-pool shooting session before we ordered something. This was when we realized the tea we had earlier was a mistake. We ordered some kebab and sausage with my favorite drink, Ceres.
That’s my hand holding the cup. The small black notch on my hand is from excessive riding. People that ride motorbikes often have it because that part of your hand is always pressed against the end of the throttle
After the picture session and the food, we went to the kid’s playground where she wanted to take some more pictures. I was the photographer in most of the pictures so I don’t have that many pictures of myself.
We took a couple more pictures at the magnolia photoshoot area. I was worn out from the picture taking at this point because I’m already not much of a picture person. Camera-shy.
My sister was asking us to order food now but I still wasn’t hungry. It was pretty ironic considering that I mostly eat in between shorter intervals but today, for some reason the tea seems to have taken my appetite appetite with it.
It was getting late at this point and we decided to head back to her place. When we got back, she dropped me off to the junction to pick a tricycle back to UDS.
Aside the fact that I didn’t get to take a dip in the pool, it was really great and I enjoyed it. I met someone from my back at school there and she was honestly the one that took the pictures where both my sister and I were in frame.
The next time I come here though, swimming will definitely be an option and I want to use the trampoline too. I considered bouncing on it, but paused for a minute and thought, “that’ll make me seem weird and childish but I couldn’t help the though so chances are next time I’m here, I’m going full childish!
