It's Friday again and we have another edition of Weekend-Engagement initiative by Galenkp. Looks like I'm a regular participant now, which is a good thing in my opinion. There are a few topics to choose from, so let's see what I chose this week.
Where you live: Would you rather...
If you could choose between a small shack on and idyllic beach or a cabin in the woods which would you choose and why? Explain your choice and tell us about your ideal place in a post of at least 300 words. source
For me, this is a no brainer, I would choose in a split second and would choose a cabin in the woods. Living in the mountains for me seems more healthier than living on a beach or near the beach. It's been my dream to live in the Alps for some time and I'm working on making it happen.
I grew up going to the mountains each summer, going camping as well. Was taught to appreciate and protect nature. At a young age I didn't quite understand why adults say mountains are so beautiful. For me, mountains were just a bunch of stones, but that perception and view has changed over the years.
My country has pretty much everything you need, mountains, plains, lakes and beaches, so there's a place for every taste, you just have to make the trip. However, I would prefer the Alps.
Imagine living in a wooden house and waking up to a view like that every single morning. Drinking your morning poison (tea in my case), on the veranda, while enjoying this gorgeous view. I had the pleasure to do that in 2016, when I took this photo at Red Lake, and this was just one occasion.
Imagine breathing this fresh air every single day, instead of the polluted air we have to put up with every single day in the city.
If you're lucky, you may get a rainbow too, from time to time.
One of the things I would like to do is foraging. Collecting your herbs from the wood, drying and using them for cooking and tea is priceless. I stopped doing that because no matter whaty you find at the outskirts of the city, I'm not going to risk my health. Up in the mountains however you can find uncontaminated plants. Berries are also available, which would be perfect for making jams. I would learn about mushrooms and collect those that are edible.
Training in the mountains is something I also want to mention. Trail running and mountain biking are just two of what you can do. Running alongside the road in the city may seem like a good training, but inhaling all the pollution coming your way is something you should avoid.
The Alps means France, Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia and 1200km of mountains. Of these countries I would most likely choose France, Switzerland or Italy, for the spoken languages, but cost of living would have a say in this decision as well.
There are a lot of sporting events organized in the Alps all year round, one better than the other, from World Championships, Olympics to simple ones. Would be nice to participate in a few. There are a lot of festivals organized during summer, like the Arlberg Classic Car Rally, the Montreux Jazz festival, Tour de France obviously, the Spartan race in Morzine and so on. And where there's a festival or a race, there's a party too, so life would definitely not be boring.
This is how a traditional Alpine house looks like in Tirol and not only.
But I would be ok with something like in the images above for example 😇. I would want every comfort I have now and the best internet connection at the cheapest price as well. I'm not fussy, you know? 😂
So jokes aside, I'd like to make handmade souvenirs and sell them at the local souvenir shops. Would be a nice hobby and maybe a potential source of income as well, but don't want it to be a job.
This would be my dream, but in the same time, I don't want to be cemented in one place, so I prefer to travel, choose the best weather according to seasons, so traveling to live a month or two at a beach would be nice too.
Let's see how much I can accomplish of this in the upcoming years 😃.
