I sometimes wonder what my cat Cleo would say if she could speak English. She'd probably just boss me around like she does already. She can't talk of course but often I look at her and swear she's talking to me in her cat-like manner, with her eyes, sounds and gestures.
Today Faith and I were very busy...Just like Cleo always is. The difference is that we were busy doing stuff and Cleo is mostly busy sleeping. I guess if she could talk to me she'd argue that sleeping is in fact doing something and I suppose she'd be right.
Faith and I came in after an early start, long day and a load of work, to find Cleo sitting like this on the lounge. I think she was originally snuggled up sleeping but when she heard us come in she had sat upright like this. She looked at us and her face kind of said:
Hey you lot, sit the hell down and chill! Don't you know I want a cuddle?
We moved a fridge today, a big-ass fridge; We've moved house you see and fortunately we're keeping the other one so have been able to move things over slowly. Today was the huge upside down fridge's turn and it was bloody awkward and heavy!
It's one of those fridges with the freezer compartment in the bottom and double doors up top for the fridge area and, in true G-dog and Faith style, we didn't ask for help from anyone...I'll be honest, there were moments I thought we'd made an error of judgement there. But we pushed on regardless.
We don't like imposing upon people and generally just do stuff ourselves. It's difficult at times as Faith simply can't lift like I can but she's a trooper and works hard and tries her best. I can't complain about her at all, she is a capable woman; We just have to find workable solutions.
We had to get the fridge down three steps, off the edge of my entertaining deck which meant another step, and up onto the trailer, tied down safely and then bring it to my new place and get it unloaded, to the kitchen and in place. Easy. Well, not really.
I ended up going to the hardware store and buying a long length of 50mm thick marine ply-board, six feet of it and wide enough to accommodate my sack-truck, to use as a ramp. We used that for the stairs and the trailer (on/off) although Faith had to hold that in place so it didn't slide away and I had to handle the fridge on my own...There were a few moments when I though it was going over but we made it safely, with no damage. We're a good team.
Unfortunately I had to tilt the fridge on it's back for transport as I don't have an H-frame up the front of my trailer which would have allowed me to tie it down in the upright position. Leaning fridges over is usually a no-no as oil can leak into the refrigerant lines and the compressor brackets are designed to absorb vibrations in an upright position. Transporting it laying flat or tilted can put strain on those brackets and the vibrations that occur during transport can damage the fridge. These fridges cost a packet so it's not advisable to damage them.
I had no choice though and ended up using some very thick closed-cell foam I had at home to help cushion it in the trailer. We got it moved, plugged in and then waited two hours before we turned it on to let the oils and gas settle and then...Click...Yes, it works! Success! You fkn beauty!
From there we began clearing out one of the sheds here for use as my workshop. I spoke about this in a post from seven days ago where I mentioned buying some more storage racks.
At the moment it's like a puzzle where so many things need to be moved before the desired part can be put into place...It's a nit jigsaw-ish but we're getting there.
We ended up filling my trailer with stuff to go to the dump, (tip, waste-transfer station or whatever you call it in your neck of the woods), and made it there thirty minutes before they closed. A quick trailer-emptying and we were on the way home...Feeling pretty weary.
After the usual backing in of the trailer, for what seemed the fiftieth time today, and a little bit of tidying up here and there we came inside and that's when we saw Cleo and I grabbed this picture.
It was about 1700 (5pm) by the time we came in so it was a solid eight hours of work with only a brief break around noon for a bite to eat. I think I pulled some muscles moving that bastard-fridge and my body is feeling a little painful in a few areas...But we got a lot done!
We've both showered now, separately unfortunately, and I'm sipping a coffee whilst I write this. It's 1735.
Sunday is sometimes a lazy day for us, sometimes it's spent hiking, kayaking, shooting, people-watching at cafes, walking on the beach, reading, blogging...So many things. But sometimes we work hard, like today. Either way it's just life I guess; I mean, stuff has to get done right?
We'll be ordering in tonight, pizza I think, as neither of us want's to cook. And then we'll plonk ourselves down on the couch with Cleo, cuddle up, chill and watch a movie. And...I think we could safely declare Sunday a resounding success.
I know most of y'all haven't started Sunday yet, or are in the early stages of it...Either way, drop a comment below and let me know what y'all are doing...I hope not moving fridges.
