I needed socks and boxer shorts...I came home with a gun.
- G-dog -
I headed out Saturday morning to the mall and deployed on mission underpants and socks. I know, it doesn't sound very exciting, and it really wasn't. I'm one of those shoppers that doesn't shop around much. I go to where I'll get the thing I need, buy it and leave and it's exactly what I did yesterday...with one little detour to the toy section.
My nephew's birthday is coming up; he'll be four years old, and because he lives almost 4,000 kilometres away I generally send something to him by the postal service. I was there with him in April this year though and left a card with $50 in it for his birthday later in the year...but I wanted to send something anyway. I decided on this Nerf gun.
It's pretty cool because it's pump-action reloaded and has a six-round rotary magazine. It comes with twelve rounds and shoots up to twenty seven metres in distance. I didn't think twelve rounds would be enough so bought a pack of an additional eighty rounds which, I assume, my nephew's mum and dad will be picking up for the next ten years but what the hell, I'm the uncle, I'm supposed to cause chaos right?
I spoke to my brother and told him I'd got it and he was happy as he was going to get one anyway. The plan is to make a shooting gallery for my nephew to do target practice which may mitigate the risk of him shooting his mum and dad, but probably not. I think my brother may get a second one so he can play with his son. That made me a bit jealous, but it'll be cool I think.
With my nephew living so far away I don't get to play with him often; I've seen him only twice in the last two years, and that's not enough. I think that's why I feel like spoiling him a little. It's the same with my niece who lives very far from me also, in Finland - Her birthday is coming up in a few weeks also. I think spoiling them a little is acceptable right?
My nephew is coming down for Christmas this year which I'm really looking forward to. I was working on a little second hand bike I bought for him yesterday also, after I got home from the range, you can read about it here. I'll have loads of things for us to do together and whilst we'll not have Nerf guns, because it might be too bulky to fly down with, we'll have water pistols (super soakers probably) and other things. I plan for us to have a lot of fun and make some great memories.
My boring shopping mission ended up not so boring as I spent time determining the various attributes of the many Nerf guns on offer and it is cool knowing that my nephew will have a lot of fun when he gets his own.
How about you? What did you shop for this weekend? What did you buy?
