If you're human I'm pretty sure you've had the thought, thank fuck this week is over. That was me yesterday at 5pm when I walked out of the office and into my weekend.
It wasn't a bad week, I'll not go that far, but it wasn't the best week I've had and complexity seemed the order of the day; no matter what I did it seemed the week was destined to spiral out of my control and that never suits me well.
Anyway, it's over and now in the past - the weekend is here.
Initially, I'd thought I'd have a very passive weekend but on reflection decided that I needed to get in-touch with my real life, that is to say the one I live outside of my professional life in which I'm a different version of myself, and so I'm going for a big hike at a place called Mt Remarkable for a chance to get up high and above those scenarios in the working week and get some fresh air into my lungs.
It'll mean an early start as it's almost two and a half hours in the truck to drive there and I'll be on the mountain for probably five to six hours up and down then the drive back - a big day at the ripe old age of 152 years old - but I'm up to the task, the only thing that can hold me back is death and even then I'm not certain it would slow me down much.
Today I hit the gun range for some run and gun shooting action which is not unusual but as I'm ramping up for a shooting event in which I'll be representing for a team as a sponsored shooter I'm working a lot harder. I shot 500 rounds today, kicked down doors and ran around a lot shooting the various "scenarios" we cam up, real-world military-style situations which require strategy, speed, accuracy and endurance. Fun.
After heading home, stowing my gear and changing I arrived at a cafe where I sit now waiting for grilled chicken salad...I'm sipping coffee and will write for a few hours. It's raining outside and I'm sitting where I can see the lake and it's kind of fucken awesome.
