Not long ago I moved house and I really like where I live which, in my opinion, is an important element of feeling that one's life is settled - or maybe that one is settled within one's life I suppose.
Society seems hell-bent on doing things with the sole intent to impress others, seek validation and relevance but for me I just want to feel comfortable, settled, content and happy in my own life so I surround myself with things that do that. People who judge...well, I don't care what judgmental people think; I don't do things to impress others - I live my life, they don't, so I feel no compulsion to do the things they (society) thinks I should do. Accept and like me for me, or fuck off, to put it bluntly.
Nature is a big part of my life; I grew up in a small rural town where one could see for miles without spotting a building so having a garden and spending time in it is important, the connection to nature, so I made sure that was incorporated into my property. Inside it's really comfortable and set up how I like it...a space created by myself and partner for ourselves.
I feel a deep sense of contentment when I'm at home and often a deep sense of resentment when I have to leave it whether for work trips or otherwise. It's my space, the one I created and...well I guess the saying a man's home is his castle exists for a reason.
What's a good day
Spending time in my house and garden doing things like reading, cooking, napping in my hammock, tinkering in my workshop or on my vehicles, watching shows with my girlfriend, playing chess, gardening, having "picnics" in our garden, entertaining the few friends we allow to come to our house...simple things are what makes up a good day.
We don't have to go out for entertainment and to feel like we're "living our lives well" because we've created what we feel is something special at home and that's exactly what we wanted. Sure, we love to go out too, we love to travel and explore and we do a lot of that, but being at home is never boring; it fills us with a deep sense of belonging, togetherness and contentment.
What's a good day for you? What do you do, where do you go and what does it look like? Do you feel the need to be "entertained" or do you feel happiness in simple moments? Feel free to comment.
