Greetings weekend-lovers (and the rest of the Hiveans)!
It's been a while since my last post in general and even longer since my last post in this community.. But I'm back!
This weekend I randomly joined a couple of basketball friends at a Drifting competition... (Videos are at the end)
Yes you read that right, drifting, motorheads rejoice 🥳🥳🥳!
You're probably thinking, isn't Gyanno usually talking about motivation, basketball, travel or photography???
And you are correct, but every now and then I do other stuff 😀...
That being said, this is not a post about cars, bikes, engines or horsepower. I know too little about all of that. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, I watch racing, I love cars and I still have a dream of owning a bike. But to be honest, my first thought when I got the invite: Ohh cool, I can test out my new lens 😁😁😁.
Haha it's a weird realization, even for me, cause a couple of years ago I would be a lot happier about the engines and cars etc...
But you see, I've been focused on improving my photography. And with that just exploring other things to take shots of (other than landscapes and travel).
So I recently bought a 55-250mm zoom lens for my Canon M50 (which I've now used extensively for bird photography and moon photography - but that's another story) and I wanted to see what kind of shots I could get from the stands, at night, at high speed 😎.
Here's the lense!
So the event had two parts, one was for bikes in a drifting competition called 'Jacky' where they basically had to get through the track CLOSELY following each other (while drifting). This was also new to me but, the bike in the front was going for time (with points being deducted if the rider put his/her leg down) and the bike behind basically had to follow and put pressure, and even overtake if it was possible... And then they'd switch.
The best times went through to the next round.
If you look closely you can see the extension of the backwheel, which is not uncommon here in Curacao's street racing scene (also called 'fever'). It definitely helps with drifting but it also helps if they would ever dragrace so they don't pop a wheelie and fall over...
It was fun to see the balancing skills and the close control.
There were riders from Aruba, St Maarten, and Curacao and they tried to make it a island competition.
There was also a lot of free styling, and riders just showing their skills.
And then came the big boys, the cars!
You felt the vibe change, the crowd got more into it. They changed the track and let the drivers go wild!
The also had a similar competition but the freestyling was the most fun to watch...
And now for the videos!
That's it for me today...
I must say I'm pretty happy with the shots I got and what the lens can do, especially from that distance and at night.
It was a Sunday well spent!
How was your weekend?
Cheers,
@Gvkanten
