Today I started teaching another English course at IFIE (Instituto de Formaci贸n e Innovaci贸n Educativa). This new institution that somehow managed to rescue me from retirement and isolation, is slowly but steadily growing and consolidating its academic offers with a variety of courses in languages (French, Portuguese) and other areas.
Amid all difficulties we have and all the uncertainties young people face, it is really inspiring to see these kids with so much energy and desire for learning. We started with six students, but I was told there are four more who should confirm attendance next Saturday. So, we are gonna need a bigger classroom! 馃榿
This beginners course (A2 by Common European Framework) should have a duration of 6 weeks, meeting every Saturday morning for 3 to 4 hours. I was gladly surprised to see a couple of students from a previous course. They had taken a second level course with another colleage that just ended a couple of weeks ago and I can see their progress now, which is highly motivating for them and for me too.
Hopefully, all the effort that investors are putting into this colonial house will materialize into a solid institution to provide some options for students who no longer have a public university to attend here in Cuman谩. I am glad I am contributing my share to the academic offers of IFIE and hopefully when this pandemic is over (which I guess will not be the case this year), we'll be in a better possition to offer a complete package of language courses to the young cumaneses.
It is my hope that within a year we may have a cohort of students whose English proficiency will be good enough for them to become the best advertisement for this institution.
