Its been another lovely weekend here. I went into town to meet some friends that I havent seen since the 90s ! I got into town earlier than them so went and saw some of the sights first.
These two well photographed art installations are right at the start of Princes St - the main street in the town. Up on the hill at the back is Edinburgh Castle - it was a little misty, which was quite cool to see !
I made my way along Princes Street, heading for Princes Street Gardens, as I thought I might as well take the scenic route.
Yet another shot of the Castle, taken from the gardens. From here I decided to make my way up to the castle via the Royal Mile, which I love, as its such a picturesque route.
Above is the Royal Scots Greys Monument - to one of the army regiments of Scotland.
I couldnt help but take a picture of the Scot Monument - which is on the east end of the gardens - its such a stunning structure.
From their I worked my way uphill to the Royal Mile, which is the street that takes you up to the castle. I passed St Giles Cathedral which is a stunning Scottish gothic style building.
Across the road from the Cathedral I stopped in to see the Statue of Alexander the Great and his horse Bucephalus ! I love this statue.
Above is the Tollbooth Kirk, which is no longer a church - its used as a tourist info place now. You can clearly see the mist shrouding the top of the tower here.
The castle was still covered in mist - the sign said it was sold out, so its been a busy weekend with tourists then !
I had a look around in front of the castle and then made my way back towards the meeting point - passing the cathedral again.
And passed another old church, that is now turned into something else - this is the Tron Kirk Market, which sells crafts and souvenirs.
I then took a shortcut back down the hill via the Scotsman steps - this building is now a hotel, but was the headquarters for the Scotsman newspaper, one of our national broadsheet newspapers.
Then it was beer time ! I had a really nice evening catching up with my friends.
We saw a cracking band from Aberdeen - I cant remember their name now (I'd had quite a few pints by then).
And then made my way home at about 12 or so.
It was a lovely day out, and it was fantastic to catch-up with old friends - and what a great city to do it in !
