I felt like the Weekend Engagement topic urged me to step out of my little room. It's not really because I wanted to, but because I needed to. It was Sunday, and the sun rose so high and gave us great weather to stroll around. The blue sky with wide pillows of fluffy white clouds and a quite chilly breeze were inviting, so why not go out? Besides, I needed to pick up an online order in a certain place, which I thought was also the best place to feature in the topic Weekend wandering.
Visit one or two cool, unique, interesting, weird, notable, or famous locations in your area, take some photos, and tell us about them. Showcase parts of your home location! Remember to use your own photos.
Since I am working abroad, I can't feature my home place, but rather a place here in Hong Kong. If you happen to visit this amazing region someday, don't forget to drop by Central, the capital city and government center of Hong Kong. Among the places in Central, the Harborfront, perhaps, is the most popular one for both locals and tourists.
Before going to the harbourfront, the Central Pier is another attraction. Some iconic Hong Kong buses happened to be in front of it, so it was great timing. They are usually used by tourists who drop off from the pier to roam around Hong Kong.
And of course, the most popular attraction along the harbourfront is the AIA Vitality Park and its giant observation wheel. Who couldn't notice it, anyway? This 197 ft giant Ferris Wheel has 42 gondolas. So just imagine the number of visitors that could occupy all the gondolas.
I tried this once, and it was an amazing experience. Atop the wheel offers a panoramic view of Hong Kong harbor and outlying islands. Both day and night are perfect times to hop onto one of the gondolas. But for a more spectacular experience, I guess at night is my recommendation. And that skyscraper behind it? It's Hong Kong's second-tallest skyscraper, the Two International Finance Center.
Wanna see HK's tallest building? That skyscraper on the opposite island is the tallest, the International Commerce Centre. If you want to see the view from atop the tallest skyscraper, you can visit my blog about Sky100 located on its 100th floor.
And look what I saw! Frozen Disneyland's theme for this year is also featured at this park. A giant Olaf lantern is one of the attractions. I took the chance to take a souvenir shot with it because I love Frozen and Olaf too. This, by the way, glows at night. I should have waited until dusk came, but I had some things to do that night.
From Frozen to the Jungle! Going behind the giant wheel, these dinosaurs and giant orangutans would catch your attention, and perhaps you would want to take selfies with them. The orangutans reminded me of the movie King Kong. Have you watched them?
The fun at AIA Vitality Park continues at its carnival, located behind the giant wheel. There are several seats provided for visitors and food stalls selling authentic Hong Kong snacks. So it's a place perfect for family bonding on weekends. Kids would truly love the place!
There was an event yesterday at the harbourfront, the finale of the World's Rallycross. Unfortunately, my money wasn't enough to buy a ticket, so I missed this big event.
I just watched kids play with these cars instead, lol.
People go to this place not just for fun but to relax. Couples are also everywhere dating. While couples along the harbourside were dating, there was a cruise wedding in the water. Isn't it romantic?
My apology for the blurry resolution. This was zoomed x10.
So if you are looking for a perfect spot to unwind while overlooking Hong Kong's iconic skyline, the Central Harbourfront is the best. It was a perfect weekend for me.
Although I am not sure if I can catch the WE contest deadline, I just posted this because, why not? It was my weekend experience anyway.
