Assalamualaikum and hello to my #weekendexperiences community. Welcome to another blog. Week 298 of weekend engagement topics has started. All the topics are very interesting, but I will go with:
“What have you had to work hard for and eventually achieve? Explain what it was and how you achieved it.”
I can relate my personal experience with this topic.
There was a time in my life when I thought I would have to quit. I was facing failure after failure, and it broke me internally. A challenge given by my friend completely changed my life.
There was a time in my student life when I had quit my studies after completing intermediate because my family’s financial condition did not allow me to continue. I wanted to study further, but everything was going against my favor. I had decided to quit my studies and support my family.
A picture of mine before success when I was studying.
A memorable day changed my thoughts and perspective towards life. Once, I was sitting with my close friend and enjoying some casual conversation. He told me that he was going to appear in the B.A exams and would pass them, InshaAllah. I asked him, “Is a B.A degree difficult or easy? Can I also do it?”
His reply was a bit humiliating. He said, “You can’t do it. You are an ordinary person. The English subject in B.A is far beyond your approach.”
That sentence changed my entire career. I felt humiliated after listening to this remark. I challenged him that I would also appear in the B.A exams and get more marks than him. When he heard my reply, he started laughing. He accepted my challenge, and we both started preparing for the B.A exams.
Believe me, when the results were announced, I got more marks than him and beat him by a big margin. That was the real beginning of my career.
After passing the B.A exam, it was my dream to get a government job. In a country like Pakistan, getting a government job is not only difficult but almost impossible. Still, I started chasing my dream. I completed my studies in 2010 and started applying for different government jobs. I faced a lot of hardships during that period. My family was not ready to support me, and I had no money to survive.
One day, I decided to take a bold step. I applied for a teaching job in a private school and, luckily, I got the job. It was a turning point in my career because I started earning money, and my family became happy as I began supporting them. Now, I had money to apply for different government jobs.
I continued working hard to get a government job. I still remember that my cousin got a job earlier than me, and my relatives started saying that I could not get one because I was an average student and the competition was very tough. My confidence was very low. Everyone around me was shattering my confidence, but I was the only one who kept backing myself that I could do it.
I once read a sentence on the wall of an institution:
“I can, I will.”
That sentence motivated me. In other words, you can say that it changed my life. I started believing in my abilities. I began meeting people who had already secured government jobs, learned from their experiences, got notes from them, and started practicing. I still remember waking up very early in the morning because I believe early hours are golden hours. Our mind works very fast in the early morning.
After working hard consistently for three years, finally, my dream came true. I applied for a government job where only 400 vacancies were available, but more than 90,000 people had applied. The competition was extremely tough, but I was ready for it. I appeared in the exam, passed it, succeeded in the interview, and finally got the job.
I still remember the day I received my appointment letter. When I told my parents about it, there were tears of happiness in their eyes. It did not happen overnight. I worked hard for three years. I remained disciplined during that time. I faced many failures. I applied to more than forty government institutions and was rejected. Finally, I succeeded. My belief in hard work became even stronger after achieving success.
Picture after success....
So, if you want to succeed in any field of life, you must be disciplined in that field. You not only have to work hard, but you also have to believe in yourself. Yes, failures will come, and there will be times when you will want to quit. But if you truly want to succeed, you will have to do boring things like daily hard work. Motivation alone cannot bring success; discipline does.
If you are struggling right now, don’t be pessimistic and don’t underestimate yourself. Your time will come. You will succeed, InshaAllah. All you need to do is take action in the right direction from today. Don’t wait for tomorrow. Postponing tasks until tomorrow is the worst habit in my life. So, do it right now.
You can and you will, InshaAllah.
Tell me in the comments: What are you working hard to achieve?
