Nature brought us different food to eat. We just need to know them.
I haven't seen and tasted this before until my husband brought some of it home. It wasn't even familiar to me and at the first glance I thought it wasn't edible for human. I thought only bird were eating it in the jungle.
I haven't seen this tree or fruit anywhere here in our place. It is not common and even my siblings and friends don't know about it. When I show them the pictures, they asked what is it? what its taste like?
My husband loves to bring food as a gift for our son when he came from work. It is either bread or fruits. When my husband came, our son will always ask if he has something for him. So, my husband always try to have 0ppp to bring home.
Last Sunday, he brought this fruit and not only the fruit but a bundle of fruits with some leaves. My son is so happy seeing it. It is like a grape. I was amazed by it because they are so good to see in bunch. I'm glad to see its different color, from green, to brown, to purple-like color.
My husband told us that the green is the unripe fruit, the brown is almost ripe and the purple-like is the ripe one. It is bests when the fruit will fall itself from the bunch because it means it is really ripe.
He really brought even those unripe ones so we could see its look. He even brought a bunch with leaves too and its leaves is so big and a heart-like.
He let my son pick those ripe ones. I then wash it to remove some insects in it.
This is ready to eat and my son loves it. It is sweet in taste and it smells like a wine when it is over riped but when it is not yet ripe it taste like a banana which is not that ripe too.
My husband said that this fruit is a help in times of stomach pain or diarrhea because it will act like a banana who will help lessen the bowel movement.
What is its name?
We ask him what is it's name. He said it is ubas de mar as he pronounced it. I then search it in the internet to check if he was right and the search engine gave a result for uvas de mar.
Uvas de mar shows the same fruit and I can say it is its name but I also wonder because it also shows another plant from the sea.
I also learned that it is also called as sea grape because it is like a grapes or baygrapes. It's binomial name is Coccoloba uvifera.
It was a fruit discovery sunday as I and my son discovered another fruit that exists in this place. It can be found in the workplace of my husband.
Since I am curious about how that tree looks like I texted my husband while he was at work and I asked him to ask favor from his workmate to send me a picture of its tree. Fortunately one of his workmate send me these pictures.
It is not too big or too tall, just enough to give some shades to a field worker who wanted to rest from a scorching heat of the sun. It is also known to grow in the seaside thats why one of its common name is seagrape.
I hope you also learn something and discover this amazing fruit.
