My absolute favorite weekend gigs are concerts. Whenever I am hired for concert photography I feel so grateful and find it so awesome. I began concert photography when I was living in Austin, Texas. There's someone playing music on every street corner, in most bars, and my roommates were musicians so I was immediately drawn to photographing concerts and musicians. When I moved back home to Hawaii I brought my new concert photography knowledge with me and was able to create relationships with venues so that I photographed most concerts at their venues.
Since high school me and all of my friends were listening to Mike Stud so when I got invited to photograph his concert in Honolulu at the club Next Door I was so excited. I brought my sister and her friends and we partied all night watching him perform while I was also photographing him and the crowd. Mike is great live and we were also able to meet him, he was awesome! I ended up photographing him a few different weekends at Next Door and every time was just as epic as the last. Me and my sister even went to his after party at the house he stays in when he visits Hawaii, the house in his "Honolulu" music video!
Going to concerts are always my favorite thing on a Friday or Saturday night. Photographing concerts is definitely even better. I get to make my art while the artist performs her/his art. The relationship of musician and photographer is seriously the coolest collaboration that I have been apart of so far.
