History has always revealed how serious the traditional dance of my community had always been. This dance called "Oganikope" was brought from a certain trip called the 'Ibibios". Today the person who made effort in bringing this mask quarrel is no longer in existence.
Today, our own generation has come to knowing all about this dance and its the most fearful dance in the community. Despite its risk, members of the community always come out in masses to watch the dance.
In history, it has never been a time that this dance had refused to injured somebody. For this year, it was 3 persons wounded. The reasons for this is because this dance is always sacrificed before it will be carried out. This dance is popularly called "The Seven Heads dance". The arrow which you are see is always used by the mask squirrel to scared the crowd via throwing the arrow into the crowd.
The entire Street were filled up because this is known as the major community play. This is the a play that attracts different people from different communities and its always at weekends during festive period. We always take fast steps in watching this play.
The most important thing is, this play don't display but just taking some same dance steps round the community. Both the old and young people always want to watch the most dangerous dance in my community this is because of the sacrifice that is done before the mask quarrel move to the seen of all.
The pot he's carrying is not just an empty pot but i took a closer look at it, and i found a human skull inside while the fire was burning from within it. The real mask quarrel that carries the seven heads was not snapped because it's not allowed. Any one who is caught taking photographs while the dance is on, will be penalize by the village chiefs. This law was just strictly for this dance in Okuni community called Olulumo.
The overall joy is that we always enjoy watching this dance as it makes the town to be filled up with visitors from nearby communities. Please kindly share your concept of your community dance and tell me what you think of this post. Thank you for staying the end.
