Like so many other forms of legalized theft the 2290 also known as the HVUT Tax (Heavy Vehicle Use Tax) started as a good program with the revenue generated being used for highway repair and construction.
Like so many other BIG DYSFUNCTIONAL GOVERNMENT tax theft programs this one has also been squandered and abused. Used for many things it was not originally created for. That seems to be the Modus Operandi for all dysfunctional governments.
I have posted about the nightmare of selling and purchasing my trucks. This will be more of the same. I am so tired of one failure after another of everyone involved with the nightmare that has been this upgrade of equipment needed to make my living and pay my bills.
I should have been up and running a month ago and have encountered nothing but one road block after another. It has been like a game of Whack a Mole trying to overcome these obstacles.
The latest was a hard no on the 2290 HVUT tax document purchased for the 2022 Kenworth that I have just leased from Lone Mountain. My wife purchased it in her name and EIN. An Electronic Identification Number that we have used to file taxes and pay the legalized theft of the IRS government grifters for years.
Landstar came back with a hard no last Monday on leasing the truck with a 2290 in my wifes name as the truck is leased in my name only. Landstar recently changed this policy with no options to work with a person in my situation.
Here are the back and forth copy paste of our e-mails with Landstars leasing dept.

"The IRS EIN is attached to your social security number. That is what we have used for nearly 30 years to pay 2290 HVUT. Just recently the IRS moved to EIN and disallowed paying with socials. My spouse/wife files our taxes under her EIN and has always paid the 2290's with that number. This has never been an issue until now. We are still waiting on Landstars New Leasing Concepts in Indianapolis to return our call.My question for Landstar is the HVUT has been paid on this trucks VIN# by my wife with her EIN Is there any way to get this truck temporarily permitted and rolling so I can pay the bills?
How about giving us 30 days for the application process for the EIN in my name to update the 2290?
An EIN in my name has been applied for. This takes 5 days to confirm and possibly another 3-4 weeks to be avail in the IRS sytem to apply for a 2290 in my name. Please update us on this situation as this kind of delay would set me so far behind finacially that I do not know If I could come back from that. 😒"

I understand your frustration however Landstar has updated their policies and what they will and will not accept. I tried doing a corporate letter which typically we can do if the 2290 is paid in a different name than what you’re titled you’re titled under your name, Randy the 2290 is paid under Kelly so I tried to do a corporate letter but they won’t accept it. They according to Landstar and I’m more than happy to copy and paste the email that was sent to me from that certain department. They need a new 2290 in your name."

"I just can not believe they do not have some way of working with us on this. A multiple million miler safe driver with no safery issues and a nearly 30 year history with Landstar. We will let you know our decision on this leasing roadblock going forward. But a 4 week no go is not dooable or acceptable in my humble opinion.
Please copy and paste that e-mail from Landstar for my records. So I can show I did not leave Landstar by choice."

"This is what I got. A corporate letter will not work in this instance, the 2290 will need to be re-issued in the proper name Unfortunately I have to go by what is asked."

So Just like that Hivonians. A 30 year career with Landstar was just flushed down the toilet. No call from upper management. No options given to us.
I was accepted and leased on with Mercer Transportation in less than 5 hours that very same day. I start next Monday. They had no problem with a tax document in my wifes name. A tax that was paid and has that trucks vin # on that document. Who the fuck cares who paid it? The Landstar Leasing and Legal departments Overlords and Over Thinkers obviously do.
Landstar has become a giant bloated corporate nightmare and I am just one more victim of that.
Thanks for FAILING Succeeding right along with Ol' Krazzy Trukker on another successful #weekend-engagement community event brought to us by a very successful individual that I have never met in person but whom I admire greatly.
Maybe next W.E. we can talk about the new ride and the first week in 30+ years for me leased with a different carrier.
Until then keep on...
