Being a pessimist by nature, my default mode is preparing for the worst case scenario. I wouldn't recommend that as this is a recipe for a sleepless night.

On the other hand, I do agree with your mother on not letting the sun go down on an argument. My mother was like that too. We'd argue over something, but we wouldn't go to bed without a hug and a kiss.
