This year our summer has been absolutely pants. The average temperature in June was 12.9 centigrade. We're in the northern hemisphere, not South Africa or Australia!!!
Luckily this week, things seems to be improving and I can finally sit outdoors. Even a simple glass of water with lemon verbena from my garden tastes so refreshing.
I've been spending a lot more time looking after my plants. This morning I took a photo of my fig plant, it's very rewarding to see how much it's grown over the week. The sense of achievement is so good even though I didn't do anything.

Boksahi composting
I took advantage of the good weather and completed a few chores at home. One of them is to deal with my boksahi compost. This is a food composting method using a fermented process (there's a lot more science behind it) and you can compost all food waste including raw food and bones. This is a great way to recycle food waste as I can add the compost to the soil to enrich it.
I dug a trench in my raised bed, tipped the compost in there (the smell is very pungent) and covered it back up. The compost is very acid so animals won't dig it up. In a few weeks time the soil will be ready for planting. Perfect timing as I have a lot of seedlings waiting.
Woodworking
Last month I started a woodwork course. It's a great way to learn a new skill. At the end of the course I made a little stool which I'm very proud of. I enjoyed the course so much, I think I might take it up as a new hobby.
And I'm not joking. Yesterday I set up my workbench at home. I borrowed some tools from my brother in law, bought a piece of wood and plan to start practicing next week.
Sunday sports
Of course I cannot not mention sports this weekend. As of writing, Alcatraz has just won the men's single Wimbledon, not that I was watching it as I was busy in the garden. I managed to catch the last five minutes of the match.
And now England has a few more agonising hours to see if we wake up to a sweet dream or another nightmare. I'm hoping for the best 🤞🍀but preparing for the worst 😟😓
