What is the one thing that would bring about the most effective and positive change to society?
Not easy just choosing one thing as there is a multitude of changes we need to improve the lives of many, but after giving it much thought, one word kept on jumping out at me, and that is...
Respect

We first have to start with ourselves and learn to have self-respect, something many people have difficulties with; likely due to childhood issues or knocks that life dealt them in adulthood.
People in positions of authority need to realize that respect is earned and cannot be forced onto people; this will lead to harmony and improved production in the workplace as there will be a better understanding of lines of authority.
We all need to humble ourselves and respect each other's differences which will give everyone acceptance and a better understanding of people.
Respect for our children, parents, the elderly, people of other races and creeds, work colleagues, and even a stranger in the street!

This, in turn, will bring about peace and harmony and wipe out much of the conflict in the world, as people would not impinge on each other's cultures. I believe showing respect to others can even reduce the crime rate.
It is vitally important to realize that we need to respect not only the people of the world but also respect nature and the environment wherever we live and work.

The positive spin-offs would be a healthier environment with less pollution as large industries would then introduce preventative measures, like not dumping into rivers and the oceans and reducing harmful chemical emissions into the atmosphere.
Respect for animal life, thus also helping to save the lives of many endangered species.
Having respect for nature would lead to stopping pollution. How can we do this?
By not discarding garbage, especially plastic which can take hundreds of thousands of years to decompose.
Fishing nets and plastic discarded in the ocean causes the death of whales who swallow both plastic & the nets or become entangled in the nets, as do dolphins and porpoises. This leads to a slow and painful death through suffocation, starvation, or exhaustion.

The lasting change would be peace and harmony among people, a clean and beautiful world where humans, as well as animals, can thrive and live healthy and happier lives.
This has been my response to 's Weekend Posting Topic Prompts - Wants.
As you've read, I chose:
Four: I want to change society...
If you could change one thing about society, other than politically, what would you change and why? What would that change mean to you or others now and in the future, how would it impact life, and do you feel it would be a lasting change?
A request from me - How can we help the people of Ukraine?
I've set as a 5% beneficiary on my post-earnings - an account set up to help their organization with providing food, clothing and medicine for the people of Ukraine. Please consider helping them, 5% is not a lot, but imagine if we could all collectively do that!
