First loves, those of children that for our parents are just a game, sometimes mark us for life. In my case, the first love that marked me was not mine but that of my first son: Abraham.
It was the long-awaited Friday, and although we didn't really have any plans for the weekend, being free from work and school was in itself a plan.
But a little mischief on his part changed the whole picture.
Mom! we have to go to Mc Donalds for ice cream tomorrow afternoon, and although we could use an outing, especially living in a very hot city, the very idea of going out in the sunshine made me think twice.
It was so much insistent that I ended up pleasing him, although I didn't understand his desperation until we got to the place. At a table there was a little girl from his school, but it was no coincidence, they had arranged to meet there.
For her part, the girl had also been not only insistent, but also very strict about the place and time.
Despite being the gentleman's mother, each mother paid for her little one's ice cream, and we bought some for ourselves to share some time too.
I was thinking it was just an outing with friends, found out that inside the classroom, they claimed to be "boyfriends", which made us mothers smile, especially because at the tender age of 5 years old, they would hardly have any notion of what a courtship implies.
We finished our ice cream, and our little couple decided to go play for a while in the local park. We mothers took the opportunity to catch up on school events, and of course to comment on our children's witticisms.
We had a nice time, but we had to go back, and ours husbands came to pick us up to take us home. Our little sweethearts gave each other a hug and arranged to meet on Monday in the classroom.
Their little faces lit up with a smile of triumph, not only for the ice cream, but for having made their prank come true, was the best reward of that weekend.
