Hello friends! Today I want to make this post for the amazing initiatives of #SublimeSunday inspired by
and #BeautifulSunday initiated by
. And I love to do it for this lovely community since I've not been very active and I'm getting back on the engagement horse!
This weekend was great for me, the reason? hubby was home all weekend, his work schedule doesn't allow that very often and most Sundays we have to go grocery shopping and we leave the girls at grandma's, but not this week, so the four of us enjoyed our full days together!
If you ask me, there's nothing more appealing for us, full time working people than a weekend of doing absolutely nothing but the basics, although sometimes those basics take a lot of time, still, knowing that you can wake up and dedicate your day to yourself is an amazing feeling. This changes a little bit when you have small children but in a way, there's always more time to do things at ease when we don't have to leave the house if we don't feel like it.
In times like this is when we realize the importance of pre-planning activities so you won't find yourself with bored kids, cause we all know that's not good at all! So family activities provide us with a lot of fun and a few hours of that very much-needed rest.
For me, the best kind of pre-planned activity for this kind of weekend is watching movies, but, when you add kids to the mix, considering my kids are still not in that "sit through a whole two-hour movie" stage, which I do not understand cause they can sit through 20 episodes of Peppa Pig or Mini Beat Power Rockers... Anyways, we decided to movie binge with Disney+ knowing that the girls would probably watch half of one movie before getting bored and center their attention on some other toy or activity and come back to the tv eventually, which resumes in two grown-ups watching cartoons for hours, and that's fine!

The greatest thing about Disney movies is that they truly are for all ages, toddlers will be entertained with colors and music, small children will hook on characters and as age goes up, the level of relatability shifts accordingly and the deeper understanding of situations kicks in.
The choices for this Sunday's Disney movie binge were: Encanto and Turning Red. I had already seen Encanto three times, but hubby hadn't so I made the sacrifice of watching my new favorite movie again xD and he enjoyed it too. We were going to watch The boss baby 2 cause my oldest wanted to, but she got bored of the tv and went to play, so we decided to leave it for next weekend maybe.
About Encanto, what can I say, I adore everything about it, the colors, the accuracy within the fantasy of a traditional family dynamic, every character has something you can relate to. My personal top three of the Madrigal family:
Camilo: I mean, he stole my heart the second he shifted into a mom so she could get some sleep! also, one of the funniest characters in the movie, if not the funniest, even when his scenes weren't all that long.
Bruno: Well, I do talk about Bruno!! he gave us the most iconic song in the movie, goes through hell to keep his niece from a prophecy, and let's be honest, helped save the day all around.
Luisa: She's me, I relate so much to her struggle of being always in the position of making life easy for everyone while hers is left aside. She also gave us an impressive and amazing song (you can see what I wrote about it HERE if you want). She is my overall favorite!
The movie is a very nice representation of the many issues a family can have, the ceremonies, traditions, relationships, I can't think of one that can't relate to a character or another! and for the technicalities, I am no movie critic but I think it's beautifully done in every way, the soundtrack is amazing and you get a nice feeling when the movie ends. It's a 10/10 for me

Hubby says the biggest difference between Disney and Pixar's animation is that Pixar doesn't do musicals, which he is very happy about since he does not like musicals all that much, I think that is why he enjoyed "Turning Red" a bit more than "Encanto". I liked it a lot as well, I found a lot of resemblance to what I know from Chinese culture which is not that much, far from the very strict way they raise their children, the importance of being good students, responsible in every way.
Honoring parents, doing all the school work, house chores, dealing with being a teenager, friendships, new feelings, bullying, boy-band crushes, it's a very complete movie when you think of it as a window to what being 13 is. Is a movie I'd like to watch with my girls once they are old enough to understand it, the way they represented for the first time in history something as normal as a little girl turning into a young woman is very on point, and being able to do so keeping the innocence of a children movie is a job well done, so, YAY Pixar!
My favorite character from this movie is Mei Mei, I see myself in her when I was 13, in love with a boy-band member, doing pretty much whatever I needed to do to see him in person, juggling school with things I like to do for fun, and getting emotional and not knowing very well how to manage my feelings at times. It was a very nice movie, an 8/10 for me!
Time like this unfortunately doesn't come as often as I'd like, that's why it was son an amazing couple of days, I really wish to have many more #beautifulsundays. See you soon lovely community, hope you enjoy this post as much as I enjoyed doing it!
