Greetings, Community
Do you feel that society is distracted by social media and that this distraction blinds people to what is important? If so, why are people so willing to be distracted from the most important aspect of their own lives?
Since the beginning of the internet cycle, society has undergone many changes. Adapting to this new learning process, initially using email, and then, with the rapid advancement and creation of social media, is something no one can control. This has led to new forms of illness, as psychiatrists say, related to sleep and anxiety. Furthermore, security is very weak.
Children and adolescents are entering this world of social media at an increasingly rapid pace. The pandemic accelerated online employment, with a large majority now working remotely at night, which is causing many internal conflicts for people.
Now, there are differences between online work and the use of social media for supposed distractions or to stay informed about what's happening in the world. This has led to the creation of content, sometimes unfiltered, presenting topics that upset people's nerves.
The distraction might stem from a lack of knowledge or a weakness; people feel that if they don't follow certain people, they're not involved in anything, or they feel they're missing out if they don't disconnect from them for periods during the day. We can discuss this from an educational perspective, although we have plenty of information on how to disconnect from devices and social media for short periods. Many might do so because they say it's a distraction; for others, it's a tool to advertise their businesses. Therefore, there are times when they can't disconnect from their devices because they're working on something that generates income for their livelihood.
Those of us who, for some reason, have learned to detach ourselves a little from social media, can say, "If I did it, why didn't the other person?" We can say it's willpower and discipline towards the times we dedicate to checking our social networks, or the specific users we follow.
