The best bit about Brisbane is or was that Real Estate Prices are or were cheaper. Thirty years ago it was like half of what it was in Sydney and Melbourne, that made it so much easier to get your foot in the door with this owning your own place game.
I suppose I was lucky when my parents retired here a few years early and made the big move from down south. After they were moved there was not a lot keeping in Victoria, I was keen to travel and see a bit more of Australia and the world.
It was massive commitment for a young bloke back then but I got a loan and bought a small unit in Brisbane and used it as a base, renting to out then I was either working some big project or travelling. It all worked out way better than I ever imagined especially when Brisbane's real estate prices started to climb closer to the other major capital city.
The negative to this real estate boom has been the population increase and traffic. It often has me wondering if there was some new location that might help me retire a little earlier as well. Nowadays the only cheaper real estate seems to be hours out of town and miles from the coast. Even then, went you add all the fees and costs involved with moving its does feel like it is worth all the effort.
The weather in Brisbane is generally better than down south too. Winter is wonderful, the middle of summer can can be a bit of struggle with humidity but that's what the beach and swimming is for.
