Hello, welcome to my blog. This is my first time in the community Weekend Experiences and the truth is that I decided to come and share my weekend of chocolate shopping, rain and cold for me at home. Yes, all week, including this Saturday and Sunday, it has rained a lot in Medellin, I think in the whole Department of Antioquia and I also learned that in Bogota, which is the capital of Colombia, it rained with hail. We have spent days and nights with horrible weather, the rains have been accompanied with thunderstorms and well, just at this moment while I am making this publication it is raining.
This was a colder weekend than usual and as soon as I could I went to the store to stock up on chocolate to spend these days at home with my kids and lots of hot chocolate. I take this opportunity to mention that today, Sunday October 29, the country was holding regional elections, we did not participate because we are not Colombian citizens but we wish that everything was calm and we toasted with chocolate for the tranquility of all participants.
Chocolate is my weakness... How not to share a trip to the store in search of chocolate? Although I didn't get what I was looking for I want to invite you to join me to find out why.
As I told you, chocolate is my weakness, for me it has the most delicious taste and aroma in the world. I like it in all its presentations but what I wanted to buy was some kind of vegan chocolate, so I got to the biggest store that is close to the house. It is a small supermarket where we often buy what we need and it has quite a variety of chocolates, especially chocolate drink mixes, also in the form of candies, snacks, but none of them were vegan. What happens with these products is that they have traces of animal milk, that is, maybe I can prepare it with some kind of vegetable milk but if you have a problem with casein, an animal milk protein, then you should not consume them, as in the case of autism.
But I still want to show you the variety of chocolates in the store because I did manage to buy some in the end. But let's see the different products, for example, in the aisles there were the chocolate drink mixes ChoListo and Milo, in some countries they are very well known but not in others and that's why I will show them to you. Look at their individual presentation, to prepare a glass of chocolate, at a modest price of 800 Colombian Pesos for ChocoListo and 1,200 Pesos for Milo.
Of course, there are the larger presentations. Whoever wants to choose the ChocoListo presentation of 300 grams costs 10,900 Pesos, 1 Kilo costs 25,900 Pesos and the 1 Kilo and 1/2 costs 34,900 Pesos.
There is something for all tastes, needs and economic possibilities.
Also the one who wants Milo, of the prestigious brand Nestlé, in its largest presentation, there is the bag of 500 grams for 20,400 Pesos and 1,100 grams for 41,900 Pesos. Milo is more expensive, but all these products are very sold, the demand is very great.
I present to you the Granulated Chocolisto, maybe you knew it but I did not. I saw this presentation of 250 grams for 3,700 Pesos, I do not know if it is the only presentation that exists but that is the only one that was in the store.
All these products are very tempting but they have traces of cow's milk and that's not what I'm looking for. Suddenly, I think I get something for me and my kids, but I got confused. It's CORONA cocoa powder. This famous and old brand I only knew it in bar to prepare hot chocolate but I had never seen it in powder. Here in Colombia I have seen more variety of products compared to my home country, Venezuela.
I take the packaging and as is my habit I read the ingredients but indeed it says that it may contain traces of gluten, soy and milk. For autism, neither gluten nor milk, as I said at the beginning animal milk has a protein called casein which is not recommended to consume in cases of autism.
Now, as I am one of those who emphasize a lot on the special diet, it is logical to think that it is not right for me to buy this chocolate, you are right to think so. But tomorrow I will tell you about some details of the diet in my column about food in Autism World. For this occasion, I decide to bring CORONA cocoa powder, because it is really cold this weekend. We want hot chocolate and I told my kids I was going to buy it. Well I decide to take it, it is a package of 230 grams for a price of 8,900 Pesos.
Already when I go to the cashier to pay, is a supplier supplying merchandise to the store and look at these chocolates that were arriving, the Jet brand is very famous in Colombia are sold like hot cakes because they are delicious and very affordable prices. Per unit they are at 650 Pesos, it depends on the presentation and size, but they are super affordable. Here in Colombia, when you want a small bar of Jet, you should say chocolatina, that's how they say it.
There is also the chocolate bar with peanuts called Nick, from the Colombina brand, another very famous Colombina brand of candy and snacks, it is also economical it is priced at 1,200 Pesos, by the way, I get a big laugh out of the slogan: "Cuando pega el hambre dale un Nick" (When hunger hits give it a Nick). I decide to take three.
Now if I go to pay and put on the counter what I will take. For everything the bill was 12,500 Pesos.
I arrive home and this weekend I tasted a lot of chocolate especially hot, and here among us, this is a sweet sin to be with warmth and good taste in the mouth.
Well, this has been my quiet weekend experience at home, with lots of cold and lots of chocolate. I wish you all a happy start of the week.
