Hope you have all had a great weekend! I guess mine was one I won't forget soon as my dad and stepmother got married last weekend! It was quite well times with the corona measures easing up here in the Netherlands so we got to spend it with the family.
The Story
Each love has its own love story of course and I have to say that this one is somewhat special... You see when I was born (a month before my stepsister was born) my parents used to be the neighbors of my later to be stepmother. So funny thing is we already grew up together, without knowing that later we would be one family!
This is us all hanging out! (my younger stepsister, me and the older stepsister)
When I was 4 years old however, our neighbor (and my stepsisters father) died in a tragic accident and my stepmother was left to raise two children alone. You can imagine she became very close to my parents, who of course helped her out where they could. When my parents got divorced when I was 9 (completely unrelated matter) we got even closer.
However, it would take until I was 15 for the flame to ignite on a vacation we went on together with the two families (which we did every year) resulting in this wedding we just had!
I love this picture we made as a joke for the wedding haha.
The Wedding
We started the day getting together for the ceremony. Most of us are vaccinated, but the rest took quick tests to be able to have a picture together! So in the Netherlands the most common thing is to have a civil ceremony, which is what they did, so an official from the council married them. It was a special moment and I think all the girls had some tears haha.
We had a great day together first with the ceremony and after that we had dinner and drinks at a restaurant. We did a speech with the three (step)sisters together reminiscing about all the fun memories we have made together over the years. It was so lovely to finally see everyone again and catch up. Really felt like the first normal event since corona started.
I think what I take away most from this day is that even though things can happen in your life that might make you lose faith in love (like losing your husband) love always finds a way!
